Does Anyone Else Get "Strange" Messages Here?

I don't often get many messages here on MyLot land, but the few that I have gotten seem to be the same kind of "garbage" one might get in their spam folder of their email addresses, or even over at Facebook-land. You know the type? The ones that say something like: "I saw your profile here today and became interested in you. I would like to get to know you better…" Blah, blah, blah. Anyway, just wondering. Have any of you gotten the same kind of garbage messages?

@pgntwo I find it easier to deal with an odd spammer than some of the old long term members on this site!

I haven't had any of that kind of message for quite a while but what I do with them is to immediately PM @GoAskAlice with the username of the person. He will remove the user very quickly. This kind of spammer is impossible to detect unless people are aware of the proper way of dealing with them and getting them removed. It should go without saying, of course, that you shouldn't reply to these people, even to tell them that their messages are not required. You can easily avoid receiving most messages like this by changing your settings to "Only those I follow can message me". Blocking the person is another, less efficient method - less efficient, because it only works on one person and, if the person was reported, they will be deleted very soon, anyway.

I got messages asking me if my avatar is the real me. That was when I put up my real photo and then somebody asking me for my number. I just didn't bother with it at all.

I did get a spam message here once but it was more of like the spammer wants me to join a stock trading website. You can report it and perhaps block the member just an idea.

If they bother you report them. We did have several ex members spreading spam through PM's but they are gone now.

I used to but I changed my profile settings and they can't get to me anymore. Only friends I follow can message me now. By the way, your name "pyewacket" is a favorite of mine. "Bell, Book and Candle"? Her Siamese cat was Pyewacket and since that's one of my all time favorite movies, I had to assume that's where your name came from. If not, I'd love to know where! Nice meeting you!
