There is a Campaign to remove the judge in the Stanford rape case. This is the judge who only sentenced a former Stanford University swimmer assaulting an unconscious woman. The judge sentenced him to six months in jail for sexually assulting the young woman which sparked an outrage. There has been an outcry that this sentence is too lenient. He should have been sentenced to six years in prison for three felony convictions that could have put him away for about 15 years. All this rapist got from the judge was a slap on the wrist. There is going to be an investigation of complaints of judicial misconduct on the part of this Judge Persky.

What makes me the angriest is that the judge is reported to have said that it was just 20 minutes of action, why get so upset about it.

@akalinus I think that judge has no daughter or he would not feel that way would he? Now that young man has damaged a girl for life and what does he get as punishment, a slap on the wrist.

That judge ought to be tar and feathered. That sentence is absurd.

@JohnRoberts That sentence is absurd and I agree the judge in this should be tar and feathered.

Surely there are guidelines for sentences ranging from lenient to strict? Once the verdict is given then the judge has the power to select a penalty within that bracket, depending on how serious he considers it. The lowest possible option for rape must be higher than a six month sentence.

@Asylum I don't know if in that State the judge has any guidelines or not, it just may be up to him to hand out a sentence whatever he thinks it is.

@Asylum It is very confusing and why we can't all have the same laws I don't know.

Did they not have enough evidence or what?

@celticeagle They evidently had evidence but the judge in the case did not seem to think it was a crime.

There was enough evidence that the 12-person jury unanimously found him guilty of three felony counts. But, you know, the a-hole that did it had such a bright future ahead of him it would be a shame if it was tarnished by one mistake. So wrong that something like that can make a judge decide that a lenient sentence is a good option.

There should be complaints @Marcyaz . I am so sick and tired of these richy-rich, athletic kids getting a pass.

Just wondering why only six months for rape? In some countries it could be life imprisonment.

The judge should've made a decision that wasn't fitting. Just think about how the woman must be filling. The woman was violated and it's understandable why so many are upset by the outcome.

@Teep11 The judge should be repremanded and told to give an apporpriate sentence.

He should be more than removed, he should be disbarred for a sentence like that. She had no will of her own when she was assaulted because she was unconscious. In my book, not knowing the law, I would have given him life.

Hopefully the investigation will bring justice to the girl! Geez! If the judge is proven guilty then he should recieve worse punishment than the accused.
