Chip And His Family Are Moving!

United States
June 13, 2016 3:26pm CST
For the last week for unknown reasons, Chip decided to move from under our house to a stump located in the bushes. For the last week or so he has been cleaning out his old home by filling his cheeks with his stock pile of food. He runs back and forth, to and fro 20-30 times a day he's going across our deck. Every time we look there's Chip with his cheeks packed full. So what is the reason he's moving? Does he need more privacy for his girlfriend and baby or maybe its just the country setting that appeals to him?

Maybe he just needs a change of scenery. At least he is still in the area.

@Marcyaz Yes perhaps and we are glad he's staying on our property as he is so cute and we enjoy watching him and his family.

Having not been in on the earlier saga of chip, I can only guess that he is some type of ground squirrel. It may be that some predator has discovered his happy home under your house and he is vacating the premises before the predator eats him and his family and his food supply. My other thought would be that there may be a mechanical problem to do with your house that is disturbing his happy abode.

@GardenGerty Actually it is a chipmunk. What you said may be exactly why they moved. Only God knows, but they didn't move far and we still see them daily.

I don't know. I hope it's for all the right reasons for him to move.

@KristenH I'm with you I don't know for sure either. He sure seems to know exactly what he's doing though. He is definately on a mission. He's really a hard working chipmunk thats for sure. I'm worn out just watching him. Back and forth to and fro he goes
