Sandoricum koetjape (santol or cottonfruit) is a tropical fruit grown in Southeast Asia.
This fruit, which is called Santol here in the Philippines is abundant during the months of June or July. The outer rind of Santol is thin or thick, soft or hard, depending on its variety. The inner whitish pulp around the seed is eaten. This pulp maybe sweet or sour. After this pulp is a brown seed which is inedible. But there are some people who swallow the seeds especially if it is small.
This fruit could be eaten raw or could also be cooked and made into a delicious dish. In Bicol, Philippines, grated rind is cooked in coconut milk (with bits of pork and hot pepper).
This is the fruit which I loved to eat when I was 2 months pregnant with my youngest son.

Yup true! I see a lot being sold lately. :) Not much of a fan of santol but I do love to eat them once in a while. I usually peel it and eat it with salt. Yum!!
