The way we travel

As I get older, my travel preference and style changes. Now I do not fancy backpacking, and I do not like traveling off the beaten track in remote region of a developing country. I like to travel in comfort now, though I still do not like to travel in a tour group. I think that is the only thing that will not change. For some people, their travel preference is to visit a different country, so that they can count off 10 to 20 countries that they have visited. I do not like this method. I prefer to know a country indepth and to know the culture and the people.

When I was younger I often travelled on my own. If my friends were busy or couldn't afford to travel I travelled on my own. I thought that travelling alone was better than missing out on a trip. Today I travel with my husband or with a friend. I don't enjoy travelling on my own anymore. I find it safer and more fun to travel with other people. In the past I didn't mind staying in a cheap hostel where I had to share the bathroom with 30 other people. Today I like to stay in a better room. It doesn't have to be a 5 star hotel, but I pick accommodation that is more comfortable.

@scheng1 Yes, it also cheaper to travel with another person. I have a friend who always travels alone and accommodation is more expensive for him because he has to pay for a single room. I am not afraid to travel alone, but it is more fun to travel with my husband or with a friend.

@Porcospino Yes, it is better to share a room to cut cost. I doubt hotel has many single room, because even business travelers tend to share a room.

Yes, that is part of the change that comes with age. I do not mind travelling alone, but I rather travel with someone else. Many airlines sell tickets cheaper on a GV2 basis, and there is someone to share the cost for accommodation as well.

Sooner or later you will have a chance to travel. Just work very hard, and save a lot of money.

@Chungshop Perhaps end up getting killed when I reach the border of Cambodia and Thailand. I think they are still fighting every now and then!

I think many people have this change. Since usually we have a travel with our child, so our travel is still quite exhausted and excited. Such as he can have fun in the science museum for a whole day until it is close. Therefore in the coming few years, I think our travel can not be so comfortable anyway

@youless I think his school will organize this kind of activity for them. You just have to let them go, and then you stay home and pray very hard. For us here in Singapore, even children as young as 10 years old are traveling overseas with their teachers. Many of them go to developing countries.

At least you still stay in good hotel, and not in motel like those young backpackers. These are the ones who really sacrifice personal comfort for a chance to see the world on a shoestring budget.
