Hello MyLotters! How is it in your neck of the woods?
Today, my Pinay friends and I bonded each other in the flat of my close friend G. My friend G set up the bonding when she knew that our friend J is free from work today. Just like me. G introduced us her new Pinay friend M who is very new to Germany. She and her 2 year old son are just 1 month here in our city and and they are feeling lonely and homesick.
It was very kind of G to think how her new friend M be acquainted to us. Our bonding time was very good. We had a lot of fun talking about our lives here in Germany. We, the 3 old Filipino expats, were happy eating as well as we had Sinigang soup, Arros Caldo, anchovie dried fish and rice for our lunch while our new friend M got some tips from us.
Do you have a bonding time with your friends? Do you spend it at home or do you go out?
Enjoy your weekend MyLotters!

@thelme55 it has so happened that I have no actual friends here. All of my closest are back in the states and one in Canada. My only friends here are my hubby and my furry cat Sid. Glad you enjoyed your time with your friends.

@DianneN It's tough around here. People prefer to socialize with those they already know or with family. I do have a lot of relatives but they have unrelatived me long ago. It's alright plenty of online friends and a handful of sincere friends I keep in touch with.

Yes, of course I can share the tips with you @MGjhaud. Some of the tips what we gave to our new friend were:
a) Don´t answer the very intimate and malicious questions being ask by Filipina neighbours living in the Philippines about your life being a wife of a young (24 years) German husband. It is not of their businesses.
b) If you don´t like anything like food when ask by a German relatives, just say NO. There is no harm to be truthful of yourself. Germans understand that.
c) Have your own opinion and don´t give up your own identity just because you are a wife now.
Those are just some of our tips.

That was indeed so nice of your friend to initiate this gathering . A fellow countryman new to a foreign country certainly would need to be introduced to her fellowmen so she can also have friends there to whom she can share stories with , if ever she's feeling lonely .
Your foods are indeed those that are what Filipinos in a foreign country misses .

@thelme55 My Thai daughter-in-law felt the same when she first came to England. Luckily there were a few of her compatriots already here to help her. Of course we did all we could to make her feel welcome (we love her to bits) but there's nothing like having friends from the same background, talking the same language.

@jaboUK I agree with you. I work with Thais here in our city and I could imagine what your daughter-in-law missed when she first came to England. I am sure she missed the hot Thai food as well before she met the other Thais. Have a nice weekend!

Yes, she was so happy meeting us @jaboUK. She knows now whom she can turn to in case she needs help. It is hard for a new comer to Germany to acclimatize to the weather, food, people and homesickness. How I wish I was so lucky like her when I was new to Germany.

bonding time or reunion with my colleagues is always in a restaurant and the balikbayans pay the prices of the food. it should be everybody but they insist on doing so.

@ridingbet yes, sometimes it's good to just treat them somewhere with delicious food.

I see. I can relate to that. I mostly invited my closed high school friends in my house there and we bonded together included dancing session. I cooked for my friends and let them try my European cooking and cakes. It was always fun. I think your way is good and have to try that @ridingbet so I don't have to tire myself

I usually meet friends in pubs or their homes - things are too tense at my home for inviting friends round for visits

Yes, I rather meet my friends out of the house but they prefer to bond at their homes because we usually cook together our Filipino food. Thinking about pub makes me thirsty of Guinness @arthurchappell

Sadly all of my friends live a distance from me. We don't get together as often as I'd like.

I seldom see my long time friends as they are living far away from me but we have contacts through fb and skype. These friends I bonded with in my post are new to me @Tampa_girl7

You and your friend are so kind to help the new Filipina expat and her two sons cope with the new environment/life in Germany.

@acelawrites we are glad that we could help. We have been there in her situation now and so we know how it is to be in another foreign country. She has only 1 child.

@Iam_jauntyjen I think it´s time for you to bond with them. Just have a few hours break from whatever you are doing.
