The role of mainstream media in our society.

I have read a certain post on facebook emphasizing two different stories as being told by the news and the one being shared on facebook. Two things from a different point of view. The media such as ABS CBN, GMA News even international news corporations such as CNN sometimes tell news that are far from the truth. One of the story was the recent incident when the Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte was "ARRESTED" as being televised by ABS CBN. It is a very clear example of misreporting. The son of the President Elect Rodrigo Duterte was not arrested. He was issued a citation ticket and got his Drivers License confiscated ddue to a traffic vioation. Guys, what your take. Does it really makes sense to let the media control what people think?

The goal of mainstream media in the United States is to promote liberalism, support Democratic Party candidates and condemn all those in opposition.

I disagree. I find most of the US press to support Republican causes.

@JohnRoberts I believe we can agree to disagree on this one. I am not American and do see things with different eyes. You may view the most conservative of UK/European/Canadian governments as being very liberal in their approach whereas I see even the Democrats as being very conservative. I have long followed CNN news and regard it as conservative to the core, which is why I think we view the concept of conservatism very differently.

@pgiblett You are grossly misinformed. It is well established the sole TV network that swings Republican is Fox News. CNN, MSNBC, NBC, ABC and CBS are blatantly liberal. 70% of news publications are blatantly liberal beginning with the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Time Magazine, Washington Post. TV talk shows like The View openly promote liberal causes and bash Christian conservative America.

The press do have a tendency to blow things out of proportion, that said this guy is a public figure and activities will be under scrutiny.

And the question sometimes, they scrutinize only one person leaving others free. Or sometimes, they scrutinize without appreciation.

@Danzylop I agree that they are inconsistent in their approach.

This has been the situation with the media for a long time now. Many moons ago newspapers and television news channels would simply supply the facts, but all that has now changed. These days they are more concerned with sensationalism in order to attract more readers or viewers. It is quite easy to present the same facts from two different points of view and create totally opposing appearances, but this is not what the media was intended for.

Something has changed. It is really conspicuous that the news today supply limited facts to discourage or encourage the audience over something. And sometimes, they do not spread the news about something that affects the personal interests of the journalists.

They don't really control what people think. And It is mostly entertainment for some people though. And they(media) sometimes tell lie to make things more appealing.

That is true. One can see it on news headlines. they will intend to bend the truth to attract the public to see what is really the news is all about. It is one way of a deceptive marketing strategy.
