There are quite a few notable events that took place on this day in history. @DianneN wanted to know what happened on this special day in her life. So here goes. This isn't a full disclosure, as there was a lot going on in history on this day, but a brief capsule of the most notable events.
First up - 451 AD Roman and Barbarian warriors halt Attila's army in eastern France.
1819 - Paddle wheel steamship, Savannah, arrived in Liverpool, England, being the first to cross the Atlantic in 27 days, 11 hours.
1837 - 18 year old Victoria crowned queen of England
1863 - President Abraham Lincoln admitted West Virginia to the Union - 35th state.
1898 - US Navy seized the island of Guam
1901 - Charlotte M. Mayne of South Africa became first native African to graduate from an American university
1941 - US Army Air Force established
1963 - Hotline established between Washington DC and Moscow
1975 - Jaws opened in theaters
There you have the most notable events in history. There are many more events that took place.

I wonder if dates will mean much after a long time. I would not put together Queen Victoria´s getting crowned with a picture such as Jaws.
