The UK is out of the EU the people have voted

The UK is out of the EU The people of the UK have voted to come out of the EU in the referendum. I’m so happy that the people of the UK have found sense to get our country back. Back in the 70 when the UK join the common market it seemed sense to join with only a handful of countries in the common market. Over the years the number of countries joining the EU has grown and 5 other countries are set to join. Two years ago the EU had to bail Grease out costing the UK billions of pounds, which country would be next? I personally think with leaving the EU the UK will be better off in the long run. The money which the UK paid to be a part of the EU now can be spent in the UK. It’s an amazing result for the common people. Now other countries are calling for a referendum France, Holland Italy and Denmark, is this the beginning of the EU break up?

We are not out yet Kevin. According to the EU mandate we have to serve a notice of 2 years. David Cameron has stated that he does not intend to begin that process for around 18 months, which would mean that we are subject to EU control for another three and a half years. I personally consider this decision to be unacceptable. The longer that Britain waits and greater the chance of other economically poor countries joining, resulting in more heavy immigration.

The sooner we get things running the better! Hopefully, Borris will replace Cameron and get things going!

@destry We are a long way from leaving the EU yet. The EU mandate calls for a two year notice to leave and David Cameron has suggested that we do not begin the process for at least 18 months. This will keep us bound by EU regulations for another three and a half years.

I am happy with the result, very happy! It's going to be a step into the dark and unknown, but the UK is strong and we can do ;)

I see nothing dark or unknown about it. I was around before we joined the EU and welcome the return to freedom.

@Asylum I see a dark time for the rest of Europe. . . It seems as though France is pondering about leaving, and this could well spell the end for Euroland!

You left, and it is your choice. The populist parties all other Europe are applauding you. I can speak only of my country, because I think I know it well. In France, I think that it is the first time that the National Front applauded something that was coming from your country. For sure, if France was leaving EU, it would be the end of EU. But... but the National Front has only two deputies in our National Assembly and if you add to this far right/xenophobic party, other voices from anti-EU parties (The populist Front de Gauche which is to the far left what is the National Front to the far right, and the Communist Party) you will find that all these parties together making a lot of noise on the media to leave the EU have only 12 deputies / 577 in our National Assembly, and you will find 30% of people in France wanting to leave the Euro zone and the EU, so you should not expect to see us leaving the EU soon.

And it about time we left the control of Brussels & Merkel telling what we can and can't do we should have left years ago. I'm sure France will follow given time.

@kevin1877uk Would you decide to do a referendum if 3 parties representing 2% of your Parliament were asking for it ? I do not think so, and we will have no referendum about Europe before Marine Le Pen will become President. It it happens, with her nice program of forced assimilation of Muslims, we will have to face first a revolution before thinking about EU.

I was surprised by the outcome because the news yesterday kept predicting a vote to stay. I personally thought Britain would eventually vote to leave for quite some time.

I agree with you on what I had been seeing in the news as well...that everyone was predicting that the vote would go in favor of remaining. So, I was in quite a shock when I woke up this morning and saw that the vote went the other way. But, like you said, I have suspected for a long time that the UK would eventually leave the EU.

Your vote came after the Swiss decision, taken only 5 days ago, to withdraw the request they made years ago to join the EU.

@LadyDuck I agree with you, Brussels have had control over the EU for far too long and we have enough, enough of all the EU directives. Many people also had enough of Merkel too. It's a big wake-up call for the rest of Europe

Merkel is the one responsible of the split of the EU, she thinks she is the President of Europe and loves to command and this is unacceptable.

@kevin1877uk I had thought all of Europe used the Euro, now I am well informed. I have heard that the countries pay a lot but don't receive much of anything back.

@Marcyaz Not totally sure but I believe it's only the UK that not using the Euro while being in the EU. I did read some time back that if the EU vote went to remain in the EU then at some point we would start to being using the Euro in the UK. Thankfully we voted to be out.
@kevin1877uk (36988)
25 Jun 16
We don't use the Euro in the UK, we never have and always had the UK pound sterling. Yes the UK paid and I guess they are still doing so until the day they finally leave £350 million ($500 million) per day and from my understand of it don't get must out of it.

It's the best move in my view that the UK taken in years. The people of the UK have had enough, enough of all the Brussels bureaucracy of telling what people can and can't do. The vote in the UK is a major victory for the ordinary person in the street to say we've had enough. The EU is now weaker than it was 10 years ago, mainly because of letting in too many countries. Not too long ago the EU had to bail out Greece which cost the UK Millions if not Billions which country would be next? I know Spain been in trouble financially and I did hear some time ago that the EU may have to bail them too unless things have changed.

It cost the UK Millions if not billions to bail out Greece, which country will be next? France, Holland, Italy and Denmark all now want to hold their own referendum to leave the EU. I personally think it's the start of the end of the EU as we know it today. If those counties vote to leave which other countries will also want to hold a referendum. People have had enough of all the Brussels bureaucracy of telling what people can and can't do. The vote in the UK is a major victory for the ordinary person in the street to say we've had enough.

Thinking on my English history, I had suspicions that the UK would vote to leave, but I didn't think it would be so close. The last figures I read showed 52 percent for leaving and 48 percent for staying.

I think it's been close all along with the option polls showing much of the same, being very tight. It will now be interesting to see what other countries will do.

I have a question for you, when you read mainstream media like BBC, CNN, Dailymail, WashitonPost, NY Times they are saying that those who voted for Exit were ill-informed, racists, bigots, uneducated, which is definitely no right and I feel insulted with those reports since my relatives who immigrated to the UK are college educated and have good jobs. Do you think the mainstream media has an agenda to control public opinion?

That is the media for you. I was well informed and I knew what I was doing. People in the UK have had enough and that why they voted the was they did. It was the ordinary people in the street that voted not the rich and well to do who wanted to stay, it was the common people saying enough is enough, a people's revolt. NO, the media are well known for getting on the bandwagon and saying what not true. I KNEW what I was voting for and I'm sure many millions of other people were the same. People have had enough of all the Brussels bureaucracy of telling what people can and can't do. The vote in the UK is a major victory for the ordinary person in the street to say we've had enough.
