Browsing random holidays I found out that today is National Catfish Day. I told my husband the news and he said, "Should we take some catfish out to cook then?" Catfish is his favorite kind of fish to eat. (Salmon is his second favorite.) But National Catfish Day isn't about cooking and eating the bottom dwelling fish. Well, not exactly anyway. President Ronald Reagan set National Catfish Day into motion back in 1987 to celebrate farm-raised catfish. President Reagan said "Farm-raised catfish have come a long way from their bottom-feeding ancestors. The catfish that are available today, fresh or frozen in markets nationwide, are products of state-of-the-art methods of aquaculture. They thrive in clean freshwater ponds on many American farms, where they are surface-fed soybean meal, corn, fish meal, vitamins, and minerals. Farm-raised catfish not only furnish American consumers with a tasty delicacy but also provide a nutritious, low-calorie source of protein that is also low in cholesterol." Do you like to eat catfish? Do you prefer farm raised or wild caught catfish? (Image from pixabay CC0 Public Domain Free for commercial use No attribution required )

I don't know if I have ever eaten catfish. I didn't know about them being farmed so that was interesting.

@nonersays I know someone in Winnipeg who fishes for them, but I don't think he eats them.

@paigea If he doesn't eat them why does he fish for them? Or does he catch and release?

Oh no! It is pretty good as far as fish goes. I'm not a big fish eater myself, but I do like some fried catfish.
