Deplorable

I'm not going to name names, and a lot of you on mylot already know, but there is wonderful lady on mylot who is fighting cancer. I got online via Facebook to comment on her latest update, and she was relating how she felt about herself with cancer. A lady had written under her post about her cancer, and that she did it to herself. That people can help from getting cancer. That getting cancer is because you don't take of yourself. I left my own comment and told her it wasn't something she could help, and I wished her well. Apparently, the woman with the deplorable words read my comment and she responded, that yes, you can help from getting cancer. I didn't even aim my reply at her. In response to her comment to me I said there are certain cancers that you cannot get just because you aren't taking care of yourself. I pointed out a nine year old girl recently diagnosed with breast cancer. She was as healthy as a horse, and took fine care of herself. She doesn't even have visible breasts, yet she had a mastectomy, the nine year old. She certainly didn't do it to herself. I also said no matter who would be at fault I would never rail at someone fighting for their lives. It's sad someone would do that. Listen, you can get colon cancer from a poor diet. And that diet might not be because you don't care. It can be what you can afford. I'm thinking specifically of my dad and his family growing up in poverty. They had beans and cornbread every weekday night, and meat only on Sundays. It was red meat because it's cheapest, and they had that available. Well, my aunt got colon cancer in her sixties. She was never overweight. Are we going to blame the cancer on her childhood diet? That's just silly. We can help ourselves in a lot of ways to be healthy and happy. But don't forget, even vegans get cancer, people who live in smog free areas get cancer...you can't pick and choose what life hands to you sometimes. You do the best you can, and you support the people around you. *This is not meant to excuse people who know they're doing wrong by their own health. If someone with a heart problem has been told no fatty foods, and then they eat nothing BUT fried foods...that's on them. So please don't misread my comments.

Of course it is no ones fault if they get cancer. How could anyone think that way ?

And I wonder who that lady would blame if someday she got cancer. Probably not herself.

I would not mind the woman who made such ignorant (to say the least) remarks. We could all give examples to show that she is wrong. I have a lymphoma on remission and I donĀ“t think that have ever done anything terribly wrong. But the amount of children with cancer show in a better way that the have not even had the chance of choosing a life style.

Bless her teeny tiny little heart. For her sake, I hope she never has to deal with a similar struggle. I can't imagine everyone she's been so heartless to will forget the things she's said.

Oh dear...I can't bless her that way..I am sorry...I will take that day in hell rather than bless such prejudiced souls. But I do understand where you are coming from.

@vandana7 Haha... that's one of those phrases that has multiple meanings. In this context, it's more of a curse than a blessing... but at least it seems polite at first glance.

I agree...facebook has a way to propagate thinking, which is not necessarily the right thinking.

It is very sad to make unkind comments to someone who is ill and fighting their illness. It would have been kinder if she had kept her comments to herself.

Cancer comes to a person by different ways, we can't always generalize. The best way to help those with cancer is not to blame her poor choices or lack of care on herself because that will not help. It is better to just give healthy tips that can be applicable to her case in a manner that will not be offensive and most of all to encourage her and give her hope and show her she is not alone for she has caring people around.

That's sad that someone would even direct harsh at some who has cancer. People can be cruel. Cancer can strike at anytime and to anyone. The woman should have a support system.

I appreciate you to bring into the attention of the health issue. Cancer is very difficult to cure. it takes times very few people are cure if miracle happen but its really hard to cure as patients need to go stage by stage for treatment. Sometimes I wonder is this cancer happen due to our food habit? I would love to read her post if she had shared I will be grateful to you I want to read her post Thank you!!

Oh dear how cruel of that person to say such a thing. Cancer is something anyone can get you are correct. So many children do get it also as you say Ambie. I hope that person gets some education and thinks before they speak. How bad of them to do that!!!

Its a shame for someone to come across so boldly like that, and so incorrect on such a very very sensitive topic. And not sensitive to just the person with the cancer, but haven't we all had a family member diagnosed with cancer? I had cancer, and although they can speculate the cause, it isn't 100% certain, what is as far as that's concerned? Glad that you spoke your mind, as it would be of the same thoughts that I would contribute.

That was very crass of that woman to write something like that to a cancer sufferer. Ignorant and cruel too. I hope your friend wasn't hurt too much by it.

I'm not misreading your comments. There is a time and place for everything. The other person's comments were out of place. They were offensive and showed a lack of sympathy and empathy for the person who is ailing.

We are now living in unsafe world, so polluted that no matter how we strive to be healthy, sometimes sickness just comes in,but it is still better to be careful with what we eat.

What all I can say is that NOTHING IS IN OUR HANDS. A guy was diagnosed for cancer and the doctor gave a time of 2 months. He started taking aloe vera. Now he is still alive. The person who took him to the Doctor had passed away...It is really amazing..
