Airport Baggage Handler and Flyer

India
June 27, 2016 8:12pm CST
Many of us travel to many places either by bus, train, own vehicle or plane but how much our luggage and baggages are safe? Whenever we travel by train or bus we are always warned to take care of our own belonging as all the fellow travellers are unknown to us and cannot trust to each other but we build relationship with our fellow traveller especially when we travel in train as well as in bus alerting our self we always need to be careful with each other. Many travellers always worried and our sleep during our journey gets disturbed. When we travel in Plane, we are not allowed to carry our baggage when it is beyond the weight as per their norm we need to submit to the caretaker so that baggages would be sent in the hand of Air Stuff and it would be handled properly and sent to our destination but when our belonging are transferred from ground staff to plane carrier we could see the ground staff handle roughly and throw our baggage. Many flyer complaints about mishandling their baggage, opening their bags and stealing our valuable thing within the flight time or prior to flight by the handlers in spite of locking our bags . Off course, many airports have installed the automatic system to transfer the baggage to the plane but we could still see from other flight the handler are throwing the bags, trolley, suitcase, other package as if baggages are garbage. I always wonder whether the concern air company has sign agreement with the ground staff or not when they are recruited to work at the ground with strict do and don't. Why mishandling happen in spite of Cctv camera is installed or they are told or trained to steal while flying or prior to transfer the baggages. Many complaints are lodged but I guess many stolen valuable are unsolved. It is also very embarrassing to flyer when you see your bags arrive open in spite of locking your bag properly. What do you say friends about baggage handler of airport ? Have you ever experience ?

I had a turquoise necklace stolen from my bag in an airport. I was "selected" for a thorough search. They let the guy in the turban go in no questions asked. Once, I was in California and asked where my luggage was. They said it went to New Jersey. So my underwear was in New Jersey and I was in San Francisco. I was going to a wedding and had nothing to wear.

Opps what's an embarrassing moments because of their negligence, a passenger need to suffer. I do not understand why they always do this seems they are trained and legally stealing is alright to them in airport

@psanasangma I guess they can get away with it. You cannot question the TSA. I just know that the necklace was not in the bag when I got there.

@akalinus Lodging complaint in another destination airport is useless as they won't be able to track but I hope they install hidden Cctv camera in every carrier

Much change is needed in this industry. Back in the day, they can be trusted to take care of passengers' belongings like these were their own. Nowadays, reports of lost baggage or stolen items are prevalent.

I think losing our valuable became trend for this airlines department. They never take action They don't care the complaints and they act as if nothing happen instead they keep on promoting and attract us with discount price and forgetting to check how passenger luggage and baggage are safety in plane

If we have something valuable we'd take it on the plane with us. We have had our bags searched from time to time too.

I would have packages sent via Fedex and pick it up at my next destination if I had the chance to do that.

In the Philippines, baggage issues is a big problem. There is a syndicate whose actions are like this: they put a bullet inside your baggage and of course the scanner will detect that and you have to pay for your sin (which is not your fault either).

I travel less, and I carry only as much as I can carry into the cabin so save myself checking in and out time..

@psanasangma .. There is always laundry at the other end...two sets of clothing, a towel, a kit bag with deo cream toothpaste, brush, soap, and whatever is precious including charger. Never had any issues. All this fits in the briefcase that is allowed inside.

Stolen goods used to be a large problem with airline luggage, today however most large airports have automated systems where people don't touch your bags after they have passed the check-in counter, Everything is automated till it is loaded onto the plane, with a bag appearing on the conveyor at the loading door of the plane. I have never had anything stolen from my bags and never had a bag lost, the only lost bag was my son's one when we traveled to Mombasa, Kenya for his wedding, but even that arrived before the wedding day.

I make sure to carry a suitcase that is small enough to carry onto the plane, so that I don't have to have the suitcase checked in and go through the process of being put onto the plane and then taken off the plane through baggage claim. I don't trust the baggage people.

I am more concerned not because we are not allowed to lock our check baggage. I've only had my check baggage misdirected once, and the airline got it to me the next day.

We've experienced our bags getting opened during the checkpoints before, but I make sure nothing valuable goes with those bags. The carry on bags would be a good place to put any valuables you may be taking with you including nicer clothing. I've not heard about anything being stolen here in the US, but then again I don't watch the news nor read the newspapers. I also don't fly a whole lot either. I've flown to Arizona in the late eighties, Guatemala a couple of years ago and Maui fifteen years ago. The best thing to do is to pray for your luggage arriving safely and intact. My bag was missing when we arrived in Guatemala, but I wasn't worried about it. I had a few changes of clothes in my carry-on, and they found it within a few days time.

@psanasangma That's what it sounds like. So then, praying about your things would be the best answer since you can't, personally, stop the handlers from throwing your things around.

I have Baggage bitter experience in airport. 2 or 3 kg extra in baggage I have to reopen it and change to hand carriage. All packing safety is broken while reopen it.

Some airports are notorious for mishandling baggage... In the days when hold, or checked, baggage was "free"...

Yes, it irks me too to see the airport authorities handle our bag and baggages so callously. They should keep in mind that there might be fallible or breakable stuff inside.
