'Shattered Scours' in Donnybrook, Western Australia, today

We did a bit of shopping today in between the showers. It is a family joke to say we are having 'shattered scours' rather than 'scattered showers'. My dear old Mum always thought this was very funny and would reward us with a giggle whenever we said it. The other joke she enjoyed was when we'd take her for a drive in the car. I would help her in then say to whoever was helping 'do you want to belt Mum up or will I' (meaning putting on her seat-belt of course). She had a great sense of humour and we miss having her around. The photo is from her garden.

Very funny...I couldn't say 'shattered scours' I even typed it wrongly just now. Is that Boronia or Geraldton wax? It is beautiful

@MsTickle @boiboing @sofs @responsive me @JohnRoberts The shrub is a leptospermum or ti-tree. I've done a video of it before: which shows the different colours we have here. There are single and double versions and best of all the 'roos don't like them. Thanks for your interest.

It's fun to change the way you say words. It's an easy way to make a person smile.

I think of Mum whenever I see something special in the garden or flower line. That's just for starters. :)

Your mother sounds like a lovely lady. Shattered Scours is a Spoonerism, if memory serves me correctly, and they can be really amusing. Lovely flowers.

Those are lovely leptospermum! I'm sure you miss her as much as we miss ours. We also have many special just for the family sayings, which are always good for a giggle or two.

She lived in interesting times and I've documented many of her stories. I've written down various sayings too to help me remember them.

Did you realise I've switched the letters around? Scours is diarrhoea but usually you say 'scours' when talking of animals. The weather people often predict scattered showers so I've just switched the first letters.

I connect my older relatives with what they used to say at times that are unique to them. May their soul rest in peace. They are in Indian languages that are tough to connect in English as they lose their original charm and even innocence - siva

I've added your name in a comment which gives a link to a video of the different colours and types. It's a leptospermum or ti-tree.

What is that plant? It looks a little like one in my garden which the bumble bees are flocking to this week.
