It Must Be A Virus

My daughter in law has had increasing joint and muscle pain for three or four days. She went to the doctor. They could run a lot of tests including one that is like a spinal tap, but based on the fact that she has lots of obvious mosquito bites he has started her on a strong antibiotic. Must mean he thinks there is a bacterial infection as antibiotics do not work on viruses. She was not sure what the medicine was. I guess it could be an antiviral. Anyway, a lot of patients have come in with these symptoms. If treating it clears it up then she will feel better and not have to have a lot expensive tests. She said he gave her a pregnancy test before prescribing anything. She also said this was a medicine she had never heard of before. I hope she gets to feeling better soon. I know that besides Zika, there are other things like West Nile that she could have. So hope you are not being chewed up by the skeeters.

I hope it would not be some form of lyme disease but that is to do with ticks. Sure pray she will get to feeling better Heather, bless her.

I hope she is okay with that. I hate Mosquitos. And all bugs for that matter. I hope the antibiotics work for her and she gets better real fast. I hate seeing people getting sick.

I am interested in seeing what the medicine is, as she has never heard of it before.

@GardenGerty Hmm. Well, you should find out and look it up online. If I never heard of a medicine before I always look it up. Certain medications I just will not take.

Hope she recovers quickly. We've been eaten by the skeeters but since the bat die out here it's been par for the course. West Nile in a healthy person is like a mild flu. When that started, I think my whole family got it. We had unusual flu like symptoms in the summer when we were feeding the mosquito population. We never went to the doctor. It really wasn't that bad.

For her it has seemed bad. I do not know if she is extra sensitive or if her bones, joints and muscles were in a lot of pain.

@GardenGerty I'm doubting it's West Nile. Probably something else.

I hope she feels better soon. I haven't noticed that many skeeters here in N. California.

Forgive the silly question, but what is a skeeter?

Oh boy I hope that she will be okay. Mosquitoes are awful I absolutely hate them! I know of Zika and West Nile and I think they can spread malaria as well. Years ago about a year before west nile became well known I got bit by a bunch of mosquitoes and got ill from it. The bits swelled up bout the size of quarters and I had a sore throat and felt achy. I never go to the doctor so I wouldn't know if it really was something caused by a mosquito virus.

I have been chewed by West Nile mosquitoes, because there are some in our area. They can give those symptoms.

I hope she's ok. Makes you wonder why those skeeters were put on this earth, doesn't it?

The summer we're having in the UK, mosquitoes can't get off the ground to fly because it's constantly raining.

Mozzies are now being found to be behind a lot of quite nasty diseases. In Australia we have Ross River virus and another whose name escapes me at the minute. The Ross River virus can leave people virtually incapacitated for years although some recover more quickly. Best wishes to your daughter-in-law.

With the mosquito bites, you'd think he put her on an antiviral rather than an antibiotic.

Sorry to hear that but please stop being so negative, it will only make you more worried.Wait and see how she feels after the antibiotics are finished.
