Home after a very busy thirteen hours in Portland

I had a pretty fun day in Portland with my daughter. We went out to a huge breakfast at a place called "Jams" not far from her new (old) house. What a half-plate full of delicious hash brown potatoes that was that came with my spinach scramble! Mmmm! Then it was off to IKEA where she spent a few hundred dollars on some furnishings and shelves (I bought two 79 cent dish towel and four little glasses). One of my side tasks on this trip was the delivery of an older Pfaff sewing machine to a woman from near Portland. Anne sold it on Craigslist. I called the woman; she met us at IKEA as we finished our shopping; I collected $150 and we took my daughter's stuff home. It would have never fitted into her Mini-Cooper. I declined to have a beer with my daughter to avoid any hint of sleepiness, since I was determined to come home tonight. I did not eat again either for the same reason. Our other trip was to a Goodwill donation center to get rid of some stuff the (inconsiderate) seller had left at her house, then, I waited until after six PM to start home to avoid traffic in that very busy city. Overall, it was a great day, but I am so glad to be back home! I forgot to mention that the image I used is Pixabay Public Domain.

Wow on your adventure. If we move to your part of the world I will actively look into how to get into Portland via public transportation. No way otherwise will I visit that elephant.

Driving is not too bad if you avoid the rush hours.

Ikea has some inexpensive but good furniture. I have spent the day with my Mom in Italy yesterday. We did like you, we waited until after 6 PM to come back home, to avoid the busy traffic.

She is at home today putting her chairs and shelves together. I hope that goes well. She starts her new job next week.

My daughter was pretty tired, but I was fine for the drive home. She was really grateful for all my help, but I have always done anything I can for her.

Glad it all went off so well. That would have been a very long day. It's a pity people can't leave houses vacant when they sell them if that's what it's supposed to be.

Yes, they left so much junk around, it was awful.

@JudyEv The yard was a mess and they left stuff that should have been taken away.

@JamesHxstatic What a shame. It must have taken up so much extra time to clear up after them.

That is a cool sign. Did you ride public transport trains?

We had too many places to go and heavy boxes to transport for that. My RAV4 was loaded.

I've always heard that it isn't a good idea to mix business with pleasure but it sounds as if you've done it successfully! It's surprising that the photo you used is available for free from Pixabay. Portland now charges photographers to use it for "any kind of commercial purpose". Full article here:
