Another coastal clean-up on July 9

I received a message on FB tonight from a bank manager inviting me to another coastal clean-up on July 9. I replied that I'll try my best to join. It would then be my 3rd participation in their coastal clean-up. An Amercian whon I met in the first clean-up that I participated also messaged that he'll be glad to see me again. I admire the guy because inspite of being on a crutch, he still joined in the clean-up. I felt ashamed for my countrymen that it would take a foreigner to pick the trash that they throw on the beach. (Martin, the American, also said that he sometimes sees the photos that I posted and that he liked these.) I hope the weather will be fine on July 9 so that I can join and give a small helping hand in the clean-up.

I wonder why they do not ask the students to help in the beach cleaning exercise. Over here, students have to do community service, and cleaning the public places is one way to do that. They will get community service hours recorded!

@sunrisefan That is good to hear. If the education board requires students to serve 100 hours of community service every year, that is a good chance to teach them about the effect of pollution.

They do. In fact, most of those who help in the clean-up are students and only a handful are not.

@scheng1 It's no a school requirement though. Students help because the clean-up initiator requested for their assistance. They responded positively though because it's also a way of bonding for these young people.

Yes indeed. it is unfortunate that most Filipinos aren't as caring about the environment as much as they should ..

And I felt ashamed that an American has to pick up the trash that my countrymen throw. Been chatting with the American just now and he's looking forward to see me again in the clean-up. We met in the first clean-up that I participated in. He says that he's been seeing the pictures of the sunrise and other subjects that I posted on FB.

@sunrisefan Yes, it's a shame that we need foreigners to show us how to clean up our environment ..

@epiffanie I hope people will change their attitude to one of concern for the environment. We only have one earth to live in and nowhere else.

YES, I realy big fat shame to our faces that some foreigners who love our country even bothered to clean things up! I just remembered that japanese who kept dusting the over pass every morning. While most of us just threw our trash when ever they want.

It's good to help clean the coastal area, the poor planet needs all the help it can get. We are filling it with trash.
