Here is one more of my feathered friends from my bird watching sessions. I have posted a few of my pictures here over the last few days. This one is called the spotted dove, it is also known by various other names like mountain dove, pearl-necked dove or lace-necked dove. Unlike the pigeons this bird is rather soft in its cooing, it makes a soft mourning kind of call. These shy birds perch on trees and do not come close to humans like their other kind the common pigeons. They look very attractive with their pearly spotted collars. Have you seen this bird in your region?

No I never see this beautiful one. If the dove is shy to humans how will you shoot the picture of it.?

@shshiju This shot is from a distance of at least 75 feet, which is why I wish I had those longer lenses. I also hide between branches to take bird pictures., its my hobby.

I have seen the more common doves with the collar. There are plenty that come to eat at my bird feeders. They have so much the habit to see me that I can approach them.

This is a lovely photo. You can easily see the spotted collar. What a pretty bird. We have doves much like this too but I don't think any have a 'collar' like yours.

@JudyEv He is also locally called the diamond collared dove. Doesn't he looked a bit snobbish? He knows he is handsome I guess.

@shubhu3 Maybe because they are rather quite and hide among the leaves.

I'm sure I've not seen them in my yard, but I see the normal morning doves I think. I didn't realize pigeons were related to doves. Is that why I'm not always sure which ones I'm viewing?

@MarshaMusselman These are Asian birds, but I understand have been introduced to most places in the world.. Pigeons and doves belong to the same family and are similar in appearance to a large extent.

@sofssu I did have a pair of snow-white doves; that is until my husband shot them because he was mad at me. BTW, I returned the favor. Now I just have the ones that call my property home.
