Bad Storms

There have been some bad thunderstorms in our area the last few weeks. Two weeks ago several counties around us were flooded out. The damage done to those areas were horrendous and 23 people lost their lives and countless others lost their homes and business'. Everyone in the state and surrounding states have pitched in to help them out. Well last night another storm came through our area. It had very heavy rain and wind gust in excess of 65mph +. It uprooted trees, flooded places and more than half of my county is without power. We were lucky our power stayed on but those whom have lost power may go without until sometime next week as trees have to be removed and lines rehung. I love the summer and the warm weather but storms like these are really scary and that's the part I dislike about the warm weather.

I remember those type of storms when I lived in Iowa and Kansas. They are scary. I hope they let up for you.

@melissa1024 Which is just about as bad. It has been extremely hot here. Oh, how I wish I still lived in a higher altitude.

@velvet53 Yes they are scary! They finally did let up and now we are in a heat wave!

@velvet53 Yes, one's about as bad as the other. It's been really hot here and the humidity just makes it even worse.

Its good people help other people in time of need. It's sad when there is a loss of life because of weather.

@melissa1024 We tend to take everything for granted maybe. I guess it pays to be prepared and it takes a storm like that to get people aware again?

@Bluedoll Yes, that is exactly right. The aftermath of those storms were devastating, but the loss of those lives were heartbreaking. Some areas are still recovering from those storms.

@Bluedoll Maybe. Bad part is we had a storm similar to this about 2 years ago that knocked power out to the whole state for about a week. It just didn't have the severe flooding. It has been about 10 years since we saw flooding like this!

Sorry to hear that. We get some severe weather here too. I always worry. It's sad when property damage occurs, but I'm most concerned about the people. I hate hearing that people have been injured or killed. :(

@Lady_Justice Yes, it was awful. Luckily, we haven't had anymore for a couple weeks!

Summer season here in my country is nothing like that. No rain in the summer just sun and fun! That's why I always find it strange to be when people say summer season is a rainy season too. Coz here summer is totally different from rainy season. Hope you stay safe.

@toniganzon We have sun and fun but also these bad storms. Spring and summer is when we have the most rain. Winter and fall is cold and snowy and icy. There can be severe ice and snow storms that cause power outages.

@melissa1024 So you don't have a real summer season then.

@toniganzon Not compared to you. We have sunny days in the 80s and 90s for fun but then we have days with those temperatures and it rains all day and we are stuck inside.

I also hate storms and we've certainly had our share too. I heard about the flooding near Greenbrier. A big golf tournament there had to be cancelled. Two of my sons are avid golfers, so I always hear about golf news. How badly was your area affected?

@IreneVincent It was pretty bad. Every where you looked trees had been uprooted and power lines down and laying everywhere. We were about the only ones in our area to have power.

I also dislike the bad storms in the summer months. I don't really like a general thunderstorm because they remind me of the potential of what storms can do.

@melissa1024 That was in 2012 and made me dislike summer even more. I was without power for five days, but many people were without for longer than that. The worst part was the heat index - over 100 degrees!

@Katlynn Yes, I do too. This storm that just passed Friday reminded me of the storm we had a few years back when most of the state was without power for about a week or more.
