Today Is The Day

Today is the day that my brother and I are going to quit smoking...or at least we are on our way. We are both starting Chantix today. I tried Chantix about 8 years ago and stopped smoking for 1 1/2 years. There was a death in the family and I started back. I could really kick myself in the backside for starting back after all that time. I know it won't be easy but Chantix does help with the cravings or at least it did with me before. Wish us luck as we start this journey today!

YES!!! That is wonderful! It is really hard, it took me many years of failing before I finally succeeded and unfortunately during any kind of stress, it is so tempting to go back. So I'm rooting for you guys!

Thank you so much! It really is hard and like you said, any kind of stress makes you want to go back to smoking again.

I hope you are both able to stop smoking with the help of the Chantix. I stopped smoking a long time ago and have never gone back to it.

@simone10 Have you tried doing something with your hands like knitting (just an idea) or having some rock hard candy?

That's great that you quit and never went back. I wish I could say the same. But, it just didn't work out that way. With Chantix we can still smoke for the first week. I have been trying to smoke less and stop some of the habits such as smoking after I eat. Hopefully I will be ready to quit after a week. It worked before so I am anticipating it working again.

@Marcyaz Recently I have gotten into adult coloring books. Coloring has helped me through pain and such so I plan on trying that. I also have those little dum dum suckers. I used them before instead of smoking and they worked really good.

I quit in 1993 and I have never had even a puff since, when I survived our house burning down in 1995 I knew I was done for good. I had previously quit and started back up. I will be praying for you.

Thank you for the prayers! I will keep everyone update and let you know how it goes. With Chantix we can smoke the first week while the medication gets in our system. When I quit before, I was able to quit after that first week.

I agree about it being bad for my health. I know it doesn't help my RA.
