Today I have to stay at home and wait for a FedEx package. We are certain it is hubby's new tablet for work. He has been able to work and keep time manually and he was paid for other time that this required. My image is my desktop. Princess loves to lay in front of it. My laptop, alas, has bit the dust. I have not liked it since the day I received it and I absolutely refuse to spend money on repairs. It was either killed by lightning or by updates. The reason I suspect updates is two fold: 1. It was recently updated to Windows 10, kind of a force out if you will. Ever since then I have had updates almost every day. The night it died, I had been notified there was an update, and so left it on when I went to bed. Windows 10 killed my desktop when I added it, and I spent well over $200 getting it repaired. 2. None of the other computers here were damaged at all. Nothing in the house had any damage other than a brief power outage. It was plugged in with other things and nothing else was damaged. Either way, I am not going to spend $200 on a poorly functioning laptop that is two years old.

It was plugged into a surge protector. That is why I think it is the update that did it.

@Hatley Since that happened on the desk top I am very suspicious. The only way I want to get 10 is if it comes on the computer. Back to school time is a good time to buy a computer.

\drat windows 10 wish I had x p professional windows again that was so easy but I do prefer my desk top over laptops as evern my old computer just never required repairs while all my friends here were telling of repairs needed on lap tops. My son the techie has a tablet oh what a tablet, I would love to have one like he has but I would probabably be lost on it. hope'you have a b ack up computer lol

My last lap top lasted me for ten years and this one I have had for three years so far. But I do like my desk top the best.

Tablets are much easier to learn than computers in my opinion. It's also easier to locate things. I sure miss windows xp.

I never cease to be appalled by the outrageous prices that are charged for computer repairs.

Sorry to hear you lost your laptop. Maybe you'l eventaully be able to get one you like better. My laptop auto updated to 10 when I wasn't paying attention. Luckily it was a smooth transistion and I actually kind of like it better than the operation system that was on the laptop though (I think it was 8.5) Other people have had nothing but trouble.

This guy tells me that four years is about the expected life span of my laptop, but I know lots of others who have had theirs longer.

Even if you're not a gamer, this video will help a lot. Same thing happened to my lap top after Windows 10. It's a lot faster now.
Here is the guide of how to optimize windows 10 for gamers and also just speed up windows 10 in general. Also since privacy is a big concern going in with wi...

I don't blame you for not wanting to get it repaired if it was the only one in the house damaged.

Wow they sure charge a lot for that. What in the world are they doing that cost that much? Yikes! If you had windows 7 or 8, you can supposedly revert back via Settings update & security recovery and select go back to windows 7 or go back to windows 8. I don't see any option like that, but I upgraded because we had windows xp which isn't supported any longer.

I have to this point resisted the changeover on my old laptop. It's telling me there is a deadline of the 29th at this point. I'm hoping they stop bugging me after that. I'm hoping to upgrade to a different computer before upgrading this one to Windows 10. I figure if I do it another way I'm setting myself up for trouble.

I have nearly enough money in Paypal to get a new laptop. As long as I postpone something else. I figure the best thing is to wait and get one with 10 pre installed.

How sad to lose a laptop in that way. Well, I think it's sad to lose a laptop in any way. I really love them. Are you planning to get a new one?
