Notifications, Suggestions, Messages and Explore

Recently after reading a post from Valerie @justforhim , I started actually paying attention to my notifications on the site instead of just what comes in to my email. Now I spend a good chunk of time working in those before writing my post--since I then figured out there is an x to close the notification once I am done with it. I had seen messages in the drop down but hadn't opened that until the other day either. I had some recent messages. Now I try to watch there. I had never opened suggestions until yesterday. Hhhmmmm. I clicked on one and then set out to figure out how to suggest. Oh gosh, that's right there by the like and comment links. That's a great feature if used correctly. Ok, correctly to me is to share posts with your followers if you know that that follower has an interest in the subject of the post. For me that would be posts about crafts, sewing, quilting, frugal living, coupons, etc. The things that I write about. Then Heather @GardenGerty suggested that while I am here to check out the recent posts under Explore. That way it's likely those who wrote those posts are still currently on the site. I was glad I checked that out this morning as I would have missed a post by a good online friend, @nonersays . Seems I'm really learning a lot about mylot lately, and that's a good thing.

It is also good to share with others. I am never sure how much to put in the posts that say "help me, I am new." I knew you wanted to learn a lot and you have already.

We were all new at one time and had to rely on others for help.

I had to laugh as Marsha is close to Martha, and my maiden name is Stewart.

You get emails concerning your notifications? I've asked for this service but don't get it.

Under your name is settings, then from there you go to notifications and on down the page to check off what you want email notices for. Of course, if you've already done that and aren't getting emails then I am of no help at all.

@MALUSE maybe @myLotBugs can help you. That seems strange that yours does not come through. I hope you get it resolved.

@marsha32 It doesn't work. I may have to ask admin again what to do.

I go by the notifications, and the messages have been great too. However, some seem to misuse the suggestion part. They suggest their own discussions. If they are on my friend list I'll get to their discussions that way. But constantly sending me their own discussions makes me less likely to respond to them. I support your reasoning for the suggestion option.

I think we all have our different ways of navigating around the site. I like to have members share posts with me. I might not get to it other wise. Some days I just don't feel like doing much.

Yes it is. I've suggested a couple posts recently that were good feel good posts. They didn't fall into any of those categories you mentioned, but I'll keep that in mind should I see one you might be interested in.

@marsha32 I've suggested two in the last week and that was the first time in months that I found posts that were worthy of a suggestion.
