July 17, 2016 12:35am CST
Great to see Mylot payments went out last night. Yay. Today was a day of changeable weather but it mostly stayed dry a I went out doing more pub sign photos, in North Manchester. I moved around by both tram and bus with lots of walking too. Signs seen included this one for The Bull’s Head in Heyside, Oldham Arthur Chappell

You really need decent weather for that type of day out.

@arthurchappell I had not thought about the lighting aspect, which would make a difference.

@Asylum the signs look best in bright daylight - annoys me at night when pubs highlight signs with close spotlights - the glare ruins photo opportunities - I find myself facing to get signs before the light fades and obviously summer is better for me than winter when it darkens earlier

very much so @Asylum especially for photos dependent on decent lighting - too much cloud makes the shots look too gloomy

@arthurchappell I might actually hit minimum by the end of the day. I'm just happy if I hit it each month.

That's a pretty direct sign. Good drawing. Ant pub named the bull's eye?

@JohnRoberts Not any more - there apparently used to be a Bull's Eye in Sholing, near Southampton, more associated with archery than the pub game of darts though

That is self explanatory But do the background detail in your pubsign post, please. What about the book? .Have the publishers got back.?

@responsiveme not much to say on this one - bull's head signs are common in areas bordering on the countryside - some commentators associate the farming bull to the Papal bull, an edict from the vatican, and it often occurs in heraldry for its strength and ferocity - a few bulls head pubs mark sites of bull fights and bull baiting, no longer practiced in Britain. Not directly related to the pub but to a weaver's cottage next door, as in 1830 when the pub was already running, a weaver called John Buckley was arrested for savagely beating children in his charge - it came to light when a young girl escaped and her condition shocked the community. Local Quakers, not then the Pacifists we know now, burnt the cottage down and Buckley went to prison for two years. No word yet from publishers but these things do take time. Hoping to meet some history buffs in September who might be able to help me out.

Pretty good looking sign. I took a hike today and did a gig tonight. The weather was strange. Felt both hot and chilly at various times during the day.

That's a nice sign. I like it when part of the picture protrudes past the frame. It's a nice technique I think.
