Meet Elvis

Well, sort of. This picture of a male robin came from Pixabay but he looks just like the robin we have here with the messy feathers on top of his head. There are tons of robins where we live but there is one that has stood out since the first day I saw him. We have a big pine tree right outside our balcony. The first time I saw this robin, I noticed how his feathers on top of his head looked all ruffled. He looked this way every time I saw him. So, I named him Elvis for his crazy hair (feathers). Elvis is so cute to watch. He protects his little pine tree with all of his might. He is usually walking or hopping around the bottom of the tree and if any other birds (especially robins) come near, he runs them off. This can be quite comical to watch. I have watched Elvis since the first day we moved here, which has been about 4 months. A while ago I noticed that he wasn't around as much. I was afraid that something happened to him. It would be 3-4 days and sometimes a week before I would see him again. A couple of days ago, my brother saw Elvis hanging around another tree. It seems that he is now a father and has been taking care of his mate and offspring. I really have missed him but I am so happy that he is alive and being a good father. Do you have any wildlife that you watch everyday?

I watch some birds that come here all the time. Your Elvis looks really cute. I have a squirrel here who is making a pest of himself in my house. Today he was in my kitchen trying to rob the fruits I had left out on the table to be cut for breakfast.

@simone10 Yes, he/she has been around the house but never daring to enter the house itself. Today, he /she has acquired some courage and has gotten in. I need to trap the guy and take away to a far away place.

@sofssu You really do. As much as I love squirrels, they can be dangerous.

We have rabbits in the front yard that we watch every morning and the dogs love chasing them but I won't let the dogs out in the front any longer. That Elvis is a cutie living with his family now.

@simone10 They are really fun to watch, my smaller dog loves going out in the back yard and running the fence to get to the rabbits but they just go the other way.

Oh, I love watching rabbits. We have some that visit from time to time. They usually love the yard here and will run and chase each other, jumping crazily in the air.

That sounds like a cool bird and name. I try to watch birds sometimes. The problem is if I see them, my dogs see them and they chase them off.

Fortunately we live in an apartment and watch from our balcony. If we lived in a house with a backyard, my dogs would probably chase them off too.

I just seen kingfisher this last weekend. It's rare to see that bird due to less water in this region and also lack of good area for home.

I love watching him defend his territory. He's so cute and he will actually fight another bird if necessary. Most of the time he just runs at them and they fly away.

We had some robins nesting in our hedge, but i never saw the youngsters as I didn't want to disturb them. I'd just see the parents going in with beaks full of insects. I haven't seen any activity for a week or so though, so I think the little ones must have fledged. Our robins are very different from yours, a lot smaller.

Our mommy robin laid eggs in a nest outside our family room window. We had a better view from an upstairs bedroom window. The babies hatched, and have since flown away. I still see them in the yard. Isn't nature great????

He could be protecting his mate and their young. So nice to watch. Yes, I always watch for the bright yellow birds who perch on trees near us. They are so lovely and whistle so loud.
