In and Out, were you born in a barn!?

That is what my mom and many other old timers used to say. Having a door open all the time tended to cause flies to be a problem. However, that is not what I am referring to. It seems I will be in and out a bit today I think this is my third time to drop by and interact. It is my first discussion. I have been to the garden, showered and started some laundry. I have some writing assignments to get done and some produce to process. Wish me luck.

Time just gets away from us, doesn't it? It would be fun to just stay in one spot all day.

I did not get here much yesterday, and will not today either. I think I will drop in on my sister while I am out. I cannot seem to think of a discussion yet today.

slightly off-topic, but we have this space in our back door that needs fixed & because of it, we do have flies. and they drive me nuts. they REALLY drive my husband nuts who never did grow up on a farm where we did deal with flies more than maybe some people

I am tempted to get one of those magnetic screens for one of our four doors. it is much less expensive than a new storm door with screen at this time. Basil is supposed to repel flies. I wonder if basil essential oil in water would make a good fly spray.

@GardenGerty Our back door (out of our sunroom) is an odd size. We priced a new door in the fall, the lowest end was over $1000.... sigh. We need to do it, but we just didn't have the money to do so then. I didn't know basil was supposed to repel flies, but that's is a good idea bout the essential oil. Such a strong smell. I could run a diffuser in my sunroom. Of course, they'd just go into another room. We need a storm door too. My darn husband removed ours after the window broke, trashed it. Now we know about how costly replacing doors are for that odd size. He never thinks things through.

Good luck! I still use that phrase. I thought you were going to write about In and Out burger and just didn't bother with caps.

I have heard of them, seen the shirt, but never gone there. I wondered if I would mislead anyone.

@GardenGerty Their burgers are really good, and they hire kids to work there who tend to be bright and sweet.

Yesterday I made a large fresh salad with onions, cucumbers, tomatoes and peppers. I need to make cucumber relish. I also froze okra to eat in soups in the winter. I cooked potatoes freshly dug to have with our evening meal. I still need to freeze some tomatoes. I am wanting a food scale to weigh stuff on for pickling, etc.

My mother always liked to use that phrase. Back in those days most people relied on phrases that were handed down from generation to generation.

@GardenGerty They will probably update the terminology and ask "Were you born in open space?"

Oh, and we still do. I can imagine two hundred years in the future a space station mom saying that to her little space cadet as he goes out the airlock on the ship.

Well, we are mid August and expect temps in the 80s this week. Unusually cool for us. I like it. I have stuff to do as usual and will try to be here as well. In and out again.

They just make me feel sticky all over when they land on me in the house. Luckily that does not happen often.

I used to yell at my kids when they were young and say either "in or out" since they were always coming in or going out and the door would always be open.

It is quite likely I did the same. It is easier to remember what our parents did though, or even our grandparents.
