A Tin Full of Chocolates - Not!

Last night we went to a Murder Mystery Christmas in July night and had a riotous time. We had to write down who we thought did it and which table we thought had participated the most. You couldn't vote for your own table. Our table got the prize for 'audience participation' which was a surprise but a very nice one. We were each given a small tin of chocolates in a Christmas tin and some bath salts. It was really nice to receive a gift but my beef is with the manufacturers of the tin. As you can see from the photo, the tin isn't even half full. There are actually only eight chocolates in a sealed packet. This seems to be really short-changing the purchaser but it happens all the time, especially with confectionery it seems.

Maybe that was part of the mystery - who took some of the chocolates ? But you had a great time and that was the important part. We've never done that before!

@JudyEv That's true. Was everyone else's tins like that too? Sometimes, though rarely, you get those fluke packages where the count was entirely messed up. But no excuse - it should never be that way.

The chocolates were in a sealed packet in the tin and the tin was sealed with tape too. I would hate to buy the tin as a gift and give it to someone only to find out later that there was barely anything in it. I don't think it is fair to do that. I only hope they didn't pay a lot for the tin thinking it was full of chocolates.

@much2say We each got a tin and both were the same. And when I counted more carefully there were only 6 chocolates. I've easily fitted them all in one tin.

Are you sure? For a chocolate lover, there's never enough chocolate!

And I counted wrong - it was only six. We got a tin each and I've put all 12 in one tin and it's STILL not full.

@Genipher You are SO right. Ice-cream and chocolate - never too much and rarely enough.

I would love to attend to something like this. Too bad the prizes didn't measure up.

@JudyEv so true. Reminds me of those that local vendors that sell strawberries by the basket. You'd think that the basket is full of strawberries only to realize that the rest of the basket is only filled with crumpled newspapers. What a disappointment!

It was a lot of fun. I think i t is very wrong when you purchase a tin that you think will be full of goodies and it isn't even half-ful.

6 pieces is terrible. does it say anywhere in the tin how many there should be, or on their website? but if the others also got 6 pieces, maybe the company should pack them in smaller containers.

It sounds like whoever was giving them out did some rearranging beforehand

It wasn't good. I suppose I should have told the organiser but I didn't.

@rebelann I very much doubt that happened. If they did, and had eaten one, they would have realised they weren't nice.

I think it is a rip-off for whoever bought the tin - in good faith - expecting it to be full. I looked on the tin because I seriously thought about trying to complain to the manufacturer but the website is therejectshop.com so there probably isn't any point.

Sounds like the company is a few chocolates short of a tin, if you know what I mean!

Cute tin but it would have been cheaper to use a smaller tin surely? I bought a big tin of Roses choccies after Christmas for $7. It was choc-o-block full. Should have bought 2 tins.

I might keep these tins and fill them with Roses next Christmas for gifts. They are quite cute tins.

@JudyEv Yes, I thought that too. Maybe something home made like coconut ice or white Christmas.

@toniganzon It's more the fact that it is misleading and a rip-off.

And now I take a proper look there is only 6. It's very misleading to have a tin this size for so few chocolates.

@JudyEv I would have gotten the impression that the machine loading the chocolates screwed up and this one got past quality control.

@koopharper Except that we got one each and there is the same in each. I'll check with the frients who were at the same table and see how many they got. It's not the fact that I didn't get many goodies. I just think it is really bad that a tin should have so few in it. It's the same with some other products too. Jars or packets may be only half full but your expectation is that you're buying a full jar or packet.

It's not a big deal but if I buy a tin of chocolates I expect it to be full-ish - not more than half empty. I just see it as another scam.

OOOhhh i'm glad you enjoyed it ... i've been to one of them... they are fun ... as for you prize ... that's a bit cheap on the manufacturers side... they seem to put prices up... but reduce packaging and fillings... and could be a little disappointing to the recipient...

It's just a sign of the times I think. But certainly disappointing. The trouble is it's hard to complain to anyone and you don't know about the sparsity till you open the tin and if it's a gift you're not going to take it up so manufacturers continually get away with it.

Thanks. I was tempted to tell the organiser ( she is a friend) but in the end I didn't. I wouldn't want to be handing out 'old' chocolates if I was doing the organising.

Why was it only half full? Maybe the seller thinks the buyer could be interested on the tin container only; to reuse it.

At least with chips I think the air is supposed to help stop the chips from being crushed.
