High School Reunion

My high school had a reunion a while back and I was unable to attend that one because of my husband's passing. But I heard a lot of wonderful things from some of the people who did attend. Now it's time for a reunion for my late husband's class down in Texas. They set up a Facebook page to keep everyone abreast of the information and they added me to the page, which I thought was so nice of them! Today, someone began sending in photos from their high school days. My husband's best friend sent in a photo of my husband when he was in high school and wrote some wonderful things. And then other classmates grabbed that photo and began sending it to me, since they knew I probably had never seen it. Now, you know how goofy most of us looked in high school? My husband would probably have hidden this photo from me because he hated how he looked back then. But I love it! Those reunions can be a bit boring sometimes, but his old gang really seems to be a group of people who still enjoy one another's company. He comes from a rather small community and the ones I've been in touch with through Facebook all seem to have this love of community and deep respect for their friends. I'm so touched that they've all rallied around me and made me one of their own. Now I can't wait to see the photos from the reunion! I know Britt will be there in spirit. -Claudia- image from pixabay

I wish I could attend the reunion. I can't afford to fly down there to be with them all, but I hope to see photos and talk with some of his old friends about their time together. I know that Britt's best friend will be attending and I hope I hear some stories from him. He was the one person I had to call personally when I lost Britt. They were like brothers and it would have broken his heart to have to read it somewhere. Thank you so much. It's been a rough time but I think I'm finally beginning to adjust.

@CRK109 It takes time after the loss of a loved one. It isn't easy and it doesn't happen in a month or a year.

Our first reunion didn't impress me much. Most of the guys got a little too drunk and made fools of themselves. But I did find a lot of my old "girlfriends" and we got caught up, which was nice. Now we have a Facebook group where we keep in touch, so that's become a wonderful benefit.

@CRK109 Our class at the time was the largest graduating class in the schools history, just under 700. For the most part I was a "ghost" in school. I wasn't smart, a jock, a cheerleader, popular. I have a few friends from then that I still keep in touch with but for the most part the rest didn't know I existed. Have a blessed day

How I would love to attend, but they all live 2,000 miles away from me and I can't afford the flights (I would need 3 flights there and 3 flights back). But they will keep in touch and let me know everything when their reunion is over. I'll be looking forward to seeing photos and hearing the news.

We never did school reunions, it is not something very common in my country. My brother is in touch with several of his ex-school friends, they meed several times every year.

@CRK109 FB is great to keep in touch with old friends. I am in touch with some cousins who still live in Italy and through them I am finding some of the friends we had in common when I was a teenager.

It's so nice to be able to keep in touch with old friends. And I've learned, through a Facebook group set up by some of my old classmates, that people remember me and I didn't remember them! So it's been very nice to touch base and see how everyone is doing. If they have another reunion, I hope I'll be able to go.

How nice is this? It does sound as though Britt's classmates are really caring, thoughtful people. So nice of them to include you to the best of their ability.

Yes indeed. They have made me feel so welcome in their midst and all the kind words they've said to me over the last couple of years have made me so happy to know that Britt was cared about so much. I'm very glad I can stand up for him with his old classmates.

@CRK109 school reunions can be a lot of fun. The last time we went to one was about 9 years ago and we had a ball.

Yes, it all depends on the group. I suspect my husband's reunion is going to be wonderful because they are a very funny bunch of people.

It always touches my heart when one of them contacts me in some way. They are very kind and loving people and they obviously cared about my husband. They all kept in touch online through the years that he lived up here and that obviously meant a lot to all of them.

I know! It really surprised me how many of them contacted me with that same photo, all saying they wanted to make sure I'd seen it. How I wish I could go to the reunion just to give hugs all around!

Thanks, Sherry. My husband was goofy and corny and had a heart of gold. His one wish in life was to make people laugh, and he certainly did that. I've heard wonderful stories about him from his old classmates and it's helped get me through some very rough days.
