Three Downy Woodpeckers came by

I had my suet out on a tail prop feeder. Woodpeckers and Flickers like to sit with their tails propped against it like they do in trees. A pair of male and female woodpeckers had been alternating, coming by morning and evening. I suspected that they had a nest close-by. That was confirmed when Mom and Pop showed up with a fledged offspring, showing him one of the many cafes around, where the food is always available.

I was wondering about that too. I think he is of the larger "pileated" variety. They live in other parts of town, probably the high rent district.

Great capture. They know where to get the best food in town.

Yes, since I work part-time at the bird seed store, I spend a lot!

@JamesHxstatic They are worth every penny you spend. My son gives me a hard time about feeding the birds just like he does about my wind chimes.

Those guys are so cute. I would have assumed they were little birds with long beaks and related to humming birds. Wow they are little noise makers.

Feeding birds is such a pleasure. These look very happy to have you as a neighbor.

What a good idea to have a tail prop for the birds. Logical thing to do of course but I hadn't thought about it. I'm glad there are plenty of cafes in the area for the birds.
