Is It Really Something To Hide ?

Last week , I received a text message from our high school batch coordinator . She was asking me to also pray for our classmates who have the dreaded disease. I suppose it’s cancer . I asked who they were so I can specifically mention their names whenever I pray . But she said , she cannot divulge who they were for confidentiality reason . Is having cancer something to hide ? What if I have something to share on how somebody of that disease was cured in a natural way ? But then , I respect them for that and would just pray in a general way for them , every night before I go to sleep .

Good that you respect their decision and you are one of the person that can request for a prayer :)

I have no choice but to respect their decision because she won't divulge , But last night when we had a gathering requested by two batchmates who came home from the US , i discovered who they were . 2 of them have cancer . Now , i can name them in my prayer at night .

@wiLLmaH Yes . I wonder why that doctor batchmate wants it a secret while the other doctor batchmate who was my seatmate last night , told me their names and their conditions .

My father after his first stroke stayed in the house all day. He could still walk or move around but he chose not to. Pride overcame him I guess. He didn't want other people to see him frail and slow and so unlike the macho guy he used to be.

It is understandable with men to act like that when they undergo a seiours sickness , they don't want to be seen helpless . I think it's the same with these former hs batchmates of mine . Sad , we could have given our help if they need it and we have known who they were .

It is weird for anyone to ask you to pray for someone whose name you don't know ...

Yes, that's what i felt . But anyway , she said it can be done . So be it . But last night , when our HS batchmates met at a restaurant as a treat of two male batchmates from the US , another doctor batchmate told me about the conditions of the two with cancer . So it's cancers indeed . So now , i know who they are . I have names to mention already when i pray at night .

I respect your belief my friend . But it is in the bible that the prayer. becomes stronger when t is done as a group or man are praying for it . I have asked my mther-in-law and mother as well as my aunties to pray also for my daughter to pass the board with flying colors. comes their Board exams on Sept 22 .

@SIMPLYD You know what. I've never asked anyone to pray for me nor pray for anybody because I believe that prayers are only between me and God who is within me ..

I would not say the name of someone with a disease if I am not authorized by that person. It's not that it's something to hide, but it's to respect the privacy.

And i think that's what they requested our lady doctor batchmate coordinator . Though, i came to know who they were and what particular cancer they have when a another lady doctor batchmate , told me of how they are now . That night , i prayed particularly for them , mentioning their names . I am happy to a least help through my prayer before i go t bed .

Well, my friend is one of the doctors in our HS batchmates , so she's the one being told of anyone who has a disease in the batch . But then , she was told to just keep it secret as to the name , but they were asking for prayers .

Maybe its AIDS. You know it has a lot of stigma attached to it and some people treat these people miserably. Or if its cancer then the person may not want to be called and consoled as he/she may still be finding it difficult to come to terms with the diagnosis himself/herself.

I agree. They did ask for prayers but they don't want their names to be known , so i wondered if my prayer will be as effective when i would mention their names everytime i pray . When a lotkeep praying for you in particular ,mentioning your name in a group prayer , ithink it is so much stronger.

@SIMPLYD Someone is always asking me to pray for them. It's not weird at all. Jesus said that where two or three are gathered together there he is in the middle. So you are praying in agreement that God would take care of them, even cure them of this dreaded cancer. After all, God is in the miracle working business. What seems impossible for man, is not impossible for God.

Wouldn't it be the case when other's might see you as a cancer patient then they try to avoid being with you all together? We can't deny that our society do work this way. Isn't it?

Maybe the dreaded disease is not cancer. Could be HIV. I don't think cancer is something to dread as it isn't contagious. But HIV is something that people still dread up to these days in these poor country of hours.

@toniganzon Maybe they don't want to be pitied. I have known from our one batchmate during our gathering last Thjursday in a restaurant , who these classmates are . She told me who they were and their conditions . At least now i can mention their. names wheni pray at night.

I was thinking they don't want to be pitied , s they want to hide their names . Thugh, lately i have learned who they were . Two female batchmates but of different cancer . Both are being given the chemotherapy . We will be giving our contributions for the financial assistance of one of the two who asked for it. Yes, now i have their names whenever i pray at night .

I can understand if a person is sick and doesn't want everyone to know. They are probably trying to live as normal a life as possible and don't want anyone to pity them. I think praying in general is the way to go. I have often prayed for someone I didn't really know.

Well cancer indeed is a dreadful disease. I suppose it is the inflicted individual who does not want to reveal his/her identity and that is fine with me. Some people simply do not want others to "show" sympathy to them. Perhaps this could be the reason behind all this confidentiality. Anyways, my prayers for the said person and his/her family.

Yes , i understand them for wanting to hide their identity . I respected them for that . Although last wednesday our HS batchmates were treated by the two male batchmates to dinner. There , a lady doctor batchmates told me about their conditions and their names . I guess, for her it's nt something to hide but it's something to be known to us because one of the two asks for financial assistance and this we will be doing.
