Doggy Doings

They claim that the best way for single people to meet potential partners is to take a dog for a walk. I can see that! Since acquiring Hugo the Dog late last year I'm no longer the strange bloke who lurks suspiciously around the local parks attracting wary looks and causing concern amongst the female population. I am now a dog walker, and as such, have become eminently approachable, especially by women who can't resist a wet nose, floppy ears and a friendly lick. They also find Hugo pretty irresistible too! Had I not been happily married I could easily have struck up a relationship with three different women. One of them even had her own teeth. At least I'm assuming they were her own on the grounds that I'm fairly sure they don't do dentures with that neglected decay look! I suppose what I'm trying to say is that, in my experience, the whole dog walking thing as a means of finding a partner probably only works if you're above a certain age. Although I don't know why more young people aren't using this as a way of meeting someone special because, let's face it, there's nothing says sexy like carrying around a bag of another species' excrement!

@vandana7 I think you forgot a few people there, vanny! I think I will just use the suggest button, though, instead of risking someone getting mad about being summoned to this thread!

People who walk dogs seem more likeable, but I don't understand why. Serial killers might like dogs too.

My argument is that, as dog walkers seem to be seen as more likeable and trustworthy, the prospective serial killer would be able to attract many victims if they got a dog. So I try not to speak to other dog walkers. Just in case!

I suspect it might work for young people if they could find a place where other young people walk dogs.

Uhm... not many dog walkers around here, WorDazza... I've only seen two and they were both men. I did talk to one of them a few weeks ago, though. The dog walker I am talking about was a couple of decades older than me... He seemed to think it was perfectly fine to let his little poodle crap in my yard! Then he started to walk off.... That wasn't going to fly with me! I raised my voice slightly and ask him if he was really wanting to see if the police here would follow the city ordinances and arrest him for leaving his doggy doodle in my yard... He acted mad, but didn't say anything directly to me. He started fumbling in his pockets, presumably for a Walmart bag to use to remove the doodle. THEN he glared at me and said he didn't have any plastic bags on him. I told him that was not my problem! He picked it up with his bare hands and carried it off. He hasn't walked his dog past my house again. Do you think there would be more people walking their dogs in my neighborhood if I didn't threaten to call the police when they try to leave their dog crap in my yard?

I know the names of many of the dogs who take their owners for walks in the park behind our house. I must admit, though, that I don't know the names of many of their owners! That might change later in the year if my husband doesn't change his mind about getting a dog. I still tend to greet dogs indiscriminately with, "Hello, Gorgeous!" This has occasionally led to cheeky retorts from male owners!

People tend to be a lot more sociable when you have a dog. I try to take Mrs WorDazza with me as often as possible to fend off the inevitable amorous advances of the ladies.

LOl Thanks for the laughs and thanks @vandana7 for sending me here. I would gladly employ your services because i dislike being considered sexy for carrying a bag of doggie poo. However, I love walking my dog and nope really I don't enjoy very much the attempts by men to make friends with me for the same reason as you.

It's true that someone with a dog is less threatening somehow. I figure that if they have a dog they must be nice people - could be wrong though

We just dog sat for the past two weeks. Unfortunately it was not a manly dog but a Pomeranian. A right poncy looking thing which I renamed the rat! I was too worried in case I attracted the wrong kind of people walking that out! One good thing though it did not need too much of a walk by time it got to the end of the road would have been the equivalent of doing the London Marathon with it short little legs! I am pleased that you are still able to pull however!
