Do you cry when someone else cries?

I am such a weirdo haha. I'm watching the TV show Absolutely Fabulous. One of the main characters was just crying and I could feel myself wanting to cry too! I pretty much cry or get close to crying whenever I watch someone crying on TV. But if it's someone crying right in front of me, I'm gone. I try so hard to stop it that I get that lump in my throat. Then the tears start pouring. I hate it! But can be very hard to control. Are you the same? If someone is crying in front of you, do you get emotional with them or can you keep it together?

A phenomenon not only restricted to crying - yawning and retching or puking have similar effects in a group environment.

@pgntwo Ain't that the truth? Yawning I am good with it but retching I am not! Can't even.... (shudder)

I don't cry that often, and I can mostly stay composed if others are crying in front of me, but I will admit that there are times when I'm watching a movie where certain sad scenes will cause me to shed a tear or two. This happened to me recently when I went to see 'Finding Dory' in the theaters!

Dammit! I want to see that movie too. There is always something or the other coming up whenever I plan on seeing it. Once I actually went to the movies and did an about turn before even approaching the ticket window.

It depends on the situation, if I can relate the reasons behind why a person cry, I possibly carried away to also cry.

@eliza_godinez12 That's true. Your comment actually made me think about the times when I didn't even feel sad for when someone did cry because she was actually a very mean girl and a liar. She caused a lot of issues and when she got caught out, she'd cry and make up some fake story to try and make people feel sorry for her. Never worked on me though lol

Well, i have become a VERY emotional person lately, I've been crying when I'm happy or sad, doesn't matter. If there's beautiful music. At the drop of a hat. It's embarrassing! Let's see. . sometimes I'll cry if another person is, not sure when they're on TV though. I guess it depends what they're crying over and who they are. Some people you're just more sympathetic to, you know? And sometimes you are the one who have to keep it together when someone else is upset. Anyway, don't feel bad about this, it just shows you have a heart!

@CinnamonGrl I honestly understand what you mean!! I was talking to my dad about this sometime last week. I have been crying at odd things lately. Things that don't exactly require anyone to get emotional at. I have had to stay away from classical music for awhile because it keeps on making me want to cry lol And thank you for making me see all this as a positive thing!

@kamruzzaman5ndc hmmm not sure why that is. I think we all may smile about what we were like in the past. While thinking the silly things we did or how much we have grown too.

Sometimes I do. I cry at all sorts of things, sad music, animal cruelty vids and if someone is sad I feel sad too. I'm an empathetic person.

Never did that. I think it's pointless to mirror some emotions these days.

I'm like you, I tend to mirror others when they cry. I may not know why they're crying, but my eyes get wet. Pretty much like yawning, it's so annoying!

I am big cry baby but I actually do enjoy crying. But it all depends on the situation and if I actually feel any sympathy or empathy for the situations.

@DesirousDreamer I think crying is a good way to relieve stress too. Actually I think any type of emotion that is let out is good instead of keeping it all bottled up.

@VivaLaDani13 Oh yes, crying is so healthy for a person. It is actually know to prevent and actually help cure ulcers without too much pain.

If someone cries in front of me, I will comfort him. I will feel sorry for him. May cry, but most of the time will not. Of course, watching TV plays a lot of time will still follow the cry
