A final day of rest from the epic ongoing packing and dragging of boxes process as most of it is now under control. I need to buy a few new items of clothing, especially jeans as virtually every pair I have already is now looking rather ragged. I meant to shop for them today but postponed it until Monday. I just chilled out and slept much of today instead and started on the last laundry I’ll get done before moving. I got through to my internet service provider about transferring my account to my new address, which they are doing though they can’t activate the account until the 19th August – a week after I move, so my internet access will be very limited after Monday for the best part of a fortnight. I’ll be dependent on libraries for a week. The call took forever, and I was on the line an hour – actually inexplicably cut off at one point and having to go through several periods of being on hold before getting back to the team I was negotiating with in the first place. I did get my monthly bills reduced though and I heard them saying ‘it’ll only take a moment now sir’ so often it sounded like a quiz show host’s catch phrase. I discovered a few stray CD-ROMS I haven’t yet checked out and that one contained over a hundred London pub signs I thought I’ lost forever. I was so thrilled to be reacquainted with those and immediately backed them up too to save the risk of losing them again. Arthur Chappell

I use a lot of online backup these days for files, as well as PC, laptop and sometimes removable drives. You can never back things up in too many ways.

@arthurchappell Although I will probably only ever make a parachute jump if the plane is broken .

@egdcltd absolutely - it is never wise to do a parachute jump without a reserve chute

Moving is never fun. Glad to hear you seem to be on top of the packing. The delay from your Internet provider is a frustrating one. I'm surprised that the whole thing took that long on the phone. It shouldn't be that difficult to do.
