Not What I was Expecting (A Poem)

I walk through the house
Stepping over dolls and other toys
Hoping not to break my neck
Or step on something that I would surely destroy.
One moment they are at each other’s throats.
The next they get along all right.
Until someone says or does something the other doesn’t like
And I referee another fight.
Mondays and Wednesdays it’s ice skating
Thursdays it’s tap and ballet
Thank God for pizza
Because dinner is just a freezer trip away.
Alone time with my wife
Means a television show and talking about what a day we had.
Hoping I don’t fall asleep on the couch again.
When did I turn into MY dad?
Fortunately, there are moments
That make it all worthwhile.
Like when I sing them a funny song before bedtime
And they laugh and smile.
There are admittedly days when they stress me out
And others when they make me sad.
But, overall, I have to say
I’m still proud to be their dad.
This was not what I was expecting
When I became a parent.
But whether it’s good or bad
I wouldn’t change a minute.

We used to roll on the Weebles my kids left out, haha. Well it wasn't very funny at the time, but. .. now it is an amusing memory. Lots of times I really miss having kids around.
Sounds like yours have some great activities to call them away from computers and video games. You seem like a good dad to me, and you've got your sense of humor which is always a good thing I enjoyed the poem.
