Fireflies... when was the last time you saw one?

As a kid, I used to see trees with fireflies at night and they look so magical. It is known that whenever there are fireflies, there's a fairy nearby or living on the tree. Today, I can't even remember when was the last time I saw one. I wonder where they are now? They seem to disappear without saying goodbye. Though it is expected since the trees they used to hang out are no longer there. There stood now a building and electricity lighted the area. Fireflies, it will be sad knowing you're no longer there but will be in my childhood memory, forever. (c) Photo from Google images.

Hahaha. Really? You're scared with those shining in the dark. But I, on the other hand, was amazed. They looked magical.

Little flying flashlight-carrying insects. There's a festival held here in their honor.

I've heard that a certain place is having Firely Festival. If I'm not mistaken it is held during the mating season of the insects.

Maybe they went out to the woods. Don't want any human to bother them.

The last time I saw fireflies I was having a motorbike ride with my father in the countryside, last summer. Yes, they've become rare but in areas with little human activity they can still be spotted. My father is always surprised to see them, they're hard to find now and they bring him childhood memories as well.

yepperz, critters need their natural habitats'n order to survive. how sad that such's occurred 'n ya no longer 've not jest their presence, but that'f creatures that lived there :( i adored fireflies growin' 'p, there's none'n these arid parts. used to catch 'em, puttin' 'em'n mason jars 'n used 'em 's nightlights. my grannied let 'em go, 'f course, 'fter i'd drifted off to slumberland. tellin' me that the woodland fairies needed their assistance'n the darkness 'f night. wonderful memories!

Living in the country, we see many fire flies (or lightning bugs, as we call them!) Last night while my husband and I were sitting out back in our screened in "shack", we saw a solitary fire fly in the rain. I think it saw the blinking light from my cellphone and thought it had found a friend!
