I notice that there are a number of categories in which posts can go. I think the post I did yesterday went in to 'Interesting Discussions'. How does this work? How are the posts assessed? Do they all go into interesting at first and then as people respond they are distributed into different categories like 'Top Rated' etc?

The different menus under 'Explore' are very simple: "Interesting Discussions" lists discussions which have used the same tags as ones you have used (if you haven't used any tags in your discussions, responses or comments the selection is pretty much random) "Top Rated Discussions" are listed in descending order of the number of 'likes' a discussion has earned. "Most Recent Discussions" and "Most Recent Activity" should be self-explanatory "Hot Discussions" lists discussions from the last 24 hours in descending order of the number of responses they have gained. The other two menus list discussions by new users and discussions which have (as yet) no responses.

That explains it perfectly. I didn't realise that putting tags had a bearing on where they went. My first posts here didn't have any so they would have gone into Most Recent I think. Still learning :)

@sprite1950 They would all have shown up in Most Recent as well as in Hot and Top Rated. They are not 'categories' but could more correctly be called 'views'.

@JolietJake Ah yes, that's something else to look out for then. I'm learning bit by bit.

I am not sure about that. But some of the times recent discussions are good enough to find new posts from others.

I see that Owlwings already answered your question. I usually check the "Most Recent Discussions" and "Interesting Discussions" before going on to check the posts from the people I follow. But everyone has their own way of navigating the site so I hope you find the best way that works for you!

Yes I always check my notifications first as I see complaints about people who don't answer them and I don't want to be put on the naughty step!

Sometimes I see my discussions in that level, I just don't know why?
