India is the second country having the largest population of 1.26 billion and the first being China with a population of 1.35 billion . Unfortunately, it is unable to represent and show the performance to the desired extent as compared to China in almost all Olympics. Winning a bronze medal has become a great achievement whereas it is totally different in the case of China. In some Olympics, it topped the list of Countries winning the highest number of Gold Medal. Can you guess the reasons for such poor performance?

That's because we don't take sports seriously . Here we don't allow our kids to take sports as profession unlike other countries.

you are right. Parents do not allow their children to take part in sports and children also do not take it as profession. as well.

@shivamani10 Totally agree with you. Here mostly people think that sports is not a good carrier option. Everyone wants their kids to be doctor/engineer/CA/MBA.

Here in sports, only cricket is taken seriously.

Maybe sports are not as important in India as they are in some countries.

The Sports Authorities swallow the food items meant for the sports personnel in their houses and save their monthly expenditure on food. Shameless creatures on the earth.

The Sports Authorities always feel shortage of funds. They always feel hungry for funds and eat away with their families whenever they are released. They will not hesitate to sell the sports shoes and Jerseys meant for the sportsmen/ women. They will distribute to different colleges and schools in rotations. Is it not surprising?

China has a whole sound system to foster the elites. Government start selecting the potential elites from kids when they around in age 5 (depend on what sports they are going to do). Then, government will cover all the training and basic life expense for them if they can stay in the elites group.

I also read an article on that. They train the kids vigorously and some of the exercises they undergo are scary. They will be weeping. I have seen some photographs also. When their age is meant for kidding why they should undergo torture by the Govt., Just for medals? looks obscure.

@shivamani10, To be an elite, it is hard. But Government is not torturing them. In our concept, there are three ways to success : 1 .get a good education and get a decent job. 2, become a businessman, 3. become an elite. If the kid wants to become an elite, she or he has to sacrifice the time in playing and education. It sounds unfair. But it acceptable in Chiese society, because elite has a high status in China.

For sure there are a lot of different reasons but the question is also, why India doesn't want cricket in the Olympic Games? The Olympic Committee is trying to have cricket in the future but seems tha International Cricket Council is not so sure to be involved and India seems to be the most important country that doesn't want cricket in the Olympics.

If Cricket is introduced in Olympics it will change the very nature of Olympics. Cricket will spoil the events as well as the very concept of Olympics. I am not for it.

There's always the next olympics, we had decades before we even got a silver medal. Nothing to worry about, they did their best.

Well, We don't do very well in Rio Olymics compared with the previous Olympic games. Recently team GB has surpassed China In the number of gold medals. I think it is more important that the Indian people can go in for all kinds of sports and keep a good health than just a few people get some gold medal.

I think there can be multiple reasons. It is better to ask the problems from athletes and try to implement the needed things. I hope it will help in improving the count next time.
