I have been looking online for pet harnesses for the car for our two dogs. It's such a hassle to have to take out the kennels and put them in the car every time we want to take the dogs for a drive. If it will be a long drive, then the kennels are best of course but just for a few hours is just a pain.
There are a lot of different car harnesses for dogs online and after looking at them, I am more confused than I was at first. I'm not sure which one to get. My little furbabies are important to me so I want to make sure they are safe.
Have your or someone you know ever bought a car harness for their dog? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I always wear seat belts when I'm in a car. Back when I was married to a dog, though, she vehemently refused to wear seat belts. She wanted to be able to stick her head out the window and smell all the livestock we passed on our country drives. Of course she was a big Siberian Husky and there weren't any seat belt devices back then big enough for her. When you put a harness on a husky they automatically think it's time to pull a sled. If I ever ran out of gas I could have harnessed her up to the front of the car and she would have pulled us home. I sure miss her.

Me too @MKAlubs ; only I had a 150 lb Akita. He took up the entire back seat from door to door and his head rubbed the ceiling. If he didn't have his head out of one of the windows, he would try standing on the center console to make sure I was driving correctly.

@simone10 yes it would be, but of course it would take a bit of time because I've never made one before..

@simone10 me too in trucks back. I even saw one time where one jumped out and got hit. stupid woman was running around crying about it after because she had been the one driving around with it like that. then once I saw an abuser dragging a puppy behind his truck down the road and my husband at the time got out of the car after forcing him to stop and was going to kick butt. the guy just let it loose and we took it home. lol. been years ago

@bunnybon7 How awful regarding both stories! I would have done what I could to stop the abuser also. How can someone be so cruel?

@crazyhorseladycx Yes, they don't much much protection if we were in a wreck. Not only is there a risk that they could be hurt but they could also get out of the car and get lost.

@simone10 'tis a great idea to've 'em secured when they're travelin' with ya, e'en jest to the drive 'p bank window. sadly when a wreck occurs, they're prone to becomin' lil projectile missiles causin' great harm not jest to 'emselves but the humans 's well.

@simone10 actually I bought it just for walks and such. found it at petsmart. bought 2 and the pink one wore out. I like harnesses that don't choke a dog etc. been trying to figure what I can do if this one wears out. I sewed it once already

@bunnybon7 Oh, I thought you were referring to the harnesses for cars. I also have harnesses for both of my dogs because 1) Bella has wiggled out of her collar before and 2) I don't want to choke them.

Our dogs just ride loose in the back seat, they sleep and enjoy the ride.

@BelleStarr Maybe the best thing for me is just to continue putting them in a kennel. It might offer the best protection. We only use the kennel if we are going to travel for a while.

No. It would be a great idea to buy one for our pitbulls at home.
