Saying No To Sodium

Good Friday Morning Friends! How are you all today? Any good plans for today? So, I have high blood pressure. I mean, REALLY high. It can get into the 170/120 range. I'm surprise something in me hasn't busted by now. For a while I had it back in a normal range with diet and exercise but... I quit exercising and I find it really, really, REALLY hard to give up my salt. I like things salty. I always have. (probably plays a part in my blood pressure being so high). I'm not a sweet snacker. Give me a choice of a chocolate bar and a bag of chips and I'll go for that bag of chips almost every time. I bought something called "NoSalt" to put on my food but rarely use it. It taste funny to me. But, I really need to start saying NO to all the sodium and get my blood pressure under control before my doctor puts me on blood pressure medicines. Are you a salty snacker or a sweet snacker? Do you have normal or high blood pressure? How do you stay healthy?

I prefer salty snacks but rarely do I eat chips. Same is true with sweet snacks. I prefer eating rice meals.

I have no problem with salt, but I avoid to eat both salty and sweet snacks.

Salty and sweet. I still prefer salty, BUT... a good chocolate covered pretzle can be yummy.

@LadyDuck I know it is supposed to be healthy in may ways, but I've never developed a taste for dark chocolate.

@nonersays A piece of dark chocolate, as is, in the evening is what I like more.

I like both! But with diabetes the lesser evil is the chips. I do not have high BP but Tony does, like you and he is on meds, I have slowly reduced his salt and he can say things are to salty now. I have that no salt crap! Yes using smaller amounts of salt DOES work on lowering the bp I have done it for him and others.

There is a chip my friend let me try yesterday that was really good. I can't remember what flavor but it was one of the weird lays ones. It tasted like steak! I had my BP under control a while back, but I lost control of my salt intake. I just CAN'T. I do need to start using less though.

I was diagnosed with high blood pressure about a year ago. Mine can go really high too. One time when I went to the ER it was reading 210/120. They took me right in. I try to control it through diet and exercise but stress is also a big factor for me. I have cut way back on salt and I do read labels and watch my sodium intake. I would rather go with no salt then to use "NoSalt". That stuff tastes terrible. I try to use other spices rather then salt. I find after a while you get use to not having salt and things taste no so bad. I prefer salt over sweets any day. My blood pressure has been staying in the normal range lately. Some days are high so I have to keep monitoring it and trying to keep within an healthy level.

That sounds SCARY high! So with monitoring are you mostly high or mostly normal?
