Are you gentleman? In the Philippines we still have this customary that when you are inside the bus or in railway transit with full of passengers, you will lend your sit to a woman, pregnant, elderly or person with disabilities. Mostly, if you are a woman and happens to be in the thickly passenger vehicle ride, some of the boys will voluntarily give their sit to you. We have been like this until now. We call this being 'gentleman'. Though in some instances there are boys who will not do that but mostly you will feel the hospitality of the Filipino. No, they never consider the equality of the boys and the girls. This has nothing to do with our tradition of being hospitable.

When I traveled in Central Asia. People younger than the old folks are required to give the sit inside the bus.

@ilocosboy Well, this principle Gender Equality is not totally applied to some people in our country. That's the sad part. Unlike in NGOs that I had worked with, they really inculcated this principle not only in the mind but also within the heart.

But of course, its still voluntary. I have some some friends telling "this is gender equality', referring to the campaign of some government. But of course, this is customary.

I think there should be more of this. It's only good manners. I'm older and I have back issues BUT if I see someone get on the bus with a cane or infirm in any way, they will get my seat. It's the right thing to do, period.
