Cabin owners only refunded part of our money

United States
August 23, 2016 6:46am CST
Finally last evening I received an e-mail from Home Away saying that the cabin owners in Maggie Valley, NC made a partial refund. Partial?? When I made the first initial payment back in early April it was for $586 and change. The final payment made early July was for $504. The message I got yesterday said $504 has been refunded. I just about blew my stack. I sent the owner a message asking, 'Where is the rest of the refund?" Plus the one hundred dollars for lost food that the owner promised. So far no response, which isn't a shock. I told me husband I don't understand why they would refund the final payment (smaller amount) unless they don't plan on refunding the rest of the money. Like I've said before, if I don't get my money as promised I will post reviews about the treatment I received and that they are, among other things, liars. Photo is mine - this is new fridge that we gave up two days of our vacation fo

@AbbyGreenhill it sounds to me like they only intend to refund part of your money. I agree with @LadyDuck when you are able, I would give them a very bad review.

I have it all written except for the ending, but I don't want to publish anything yet - they could still pull it from Discover Card....I'll wait about a week then blow them out of the water.

Doesnt sound good, she should have refunded the first part payment first, it seems she plan on keeping thatone plus the extra $100 promised. Still glad you got something.

I would certainly do the same. Maybe they are limited on funds and so the rest will come in payments as they get income. It would be very frustrating for me because I tend to forget things when I get stressed with my family life. I would want to get full payment so I could get past it and move on. I am just afraid this sounds like something you are going to have to stay on and keep driving it home to them that you expect full payment. I am glad that you sound outraged and that you will stay on this. I would make it a nightmare for them that's for sure.

@AbbyGreenhill .......I feel exactly the same way about lying. That alone would make me see red.

@celticeagle Things have taken a turn for the better - after jumping down my throat in a message last night the wife is all nice today - they have never had to make a refund (she says) so they don't know the process themselves. It this goes on much longer I'm gonna scream

They aren't limited on funds with consistent rental of the cabin. Plus they run a very successful chimney cleaning company - just the two of them. I will go into more detail once the money hits Dis. Card. One thing I cannot stand is a liar - I always tell the truth, it might hurt at times but I think it's the right way to live.

That's weird indeed that what they refunded is the final payment . Does it mean the rest aren't applicable to refund anymore /

@AbbyGreenhill So they had promised a full refund plus $100? You will have to take up the matter with them.

It doesn't look like you will get the full refund. I know you will make sure the Review is a very bad Review (and hopefully the owners will see it online).

We all know how mighty the pen is, don't we? It is certainly better for them to make good on the rest of the money with all that you went through.

After many mesages, some from the male owner quite nasty - it seems we will recoup most of, not all of, the money. More to follow when it happens.

I suspected that she had no intention to give you a full refund plus the $100 when she said you had to wait. There was no reason to wait for the $100, because the Home Away has nothing to do about this.

@LadyDuck Yup, keyboard is as bad as that lady. Can't take it until Thurs...forgot pool store isn't open Wed. and I don't want to make two trips, it's over an hour round trip.

I didn't have a good feeling about getting all the money back from the beginning. The inital offer the fist day with all the problems is when she told me one hundred ninety 4 plus one hundred, so if she doesn't give me more she already gave me more than that amount. I cannot type ones or a few other keys...LOL

I got most of it back, over one thousand dollars. I still might write a review but not mention much about the rental itself, but what the area has to offer.

Take them to small claims court if they don't pay you back.

Well, that sounds like a good idea however it's a different state and a 4 hour ride and it would have to happen there. Also, I have no proof she told me she would give me a full refund so it would be her word against mine and she knows that - discussion took place over a landline phone. Of course I could tell her that is what I will do - but I will also slam her on every review site I can find.

This is a clearly an attempt to appease you with the partial refund so that you will concede and forget about the rest.

They don't know me very well then....until he $504 is in my Disc. Card account I am holding my temper in. They could stop it from coming to me if I cause too much stink right now. But I don't forget .....they can count on that.

the only thing I can think of is that the payments had to get refunded separately because they were made sep, but the 100 I am really not sure on, because that's not a refund, that's just 100 they owe you

I thought the same thing at first - but if that's the case they should have refunded the first payment first, not the second one. They are trying to mess me over, I am tired of giving them the benefit of the doubt.

@AbbyGreenhill When we visit our niece in Egypt we start talking about 'Egypt time'. Making an appointment means absolutely nothing. 12 o'clock might turn out to be 1pm if you're lucky or even later.
