Have You Ever Visited The Everglades in Florida, USA?

The Everglades cover quite a large area of Florida and attract many tourists each year. It’s a very unique landscape and I’ve only been there one time. My husband and youngest son and I actually rode on an air boat through part of the Everglades. It was quite an interesting experience. Thinking back on that day, I wonder how safe we were. I don’t think we wore life jackets. Of course, they wouldn’t be much protection against the alligators that live in the Everglades. The airboats glide over the water at a fairly good speed and I have no idea how the driver knows where he is going since the vegetation is all around. There is really nothing much to see except the vegetation, but at least it was something that I can say that I’ve done and my son enjoyed it. He was about 12 years old at the time.

LOL... for the very reason of your photo up there. I don't think that I would have enjoyed even a second of the ride lol...

Gators can be very dangerous, that's for sure. We didn't encounter any on that ride but I've seen lots of gators in Florida and South Carolina too.

@JohnRoberts Yes, I'm sure Louisiana has plenty of gators too.

@IreneVincent There are plenty of gators in Louisiana and you have to watch out if you are around bodies of water.

Oh gosh. That happened to me one time in Florida. My legs were covered with noseeum bites. I remember that well. I was so embarrassed when I went to my chiropractor and my legs were a mess.

@IreneVincent They were all over Florida but the Everglades was the worst. Mosquitoes you can run from but noseeums are called that for a reason.

@JohnRoberts Oh how I hate them. No, you can't see them at all. I had no idea that they were biting me until I started to itch like crazy.

Yes, California is a LONG WAY from Florida. I'm sorry that you are not well enough to travel. I have the same problem since I've gotten older. I guess I COULD travel, but I did a lot of traveling when I was younger and I just don't have the desire to travel anymore, especially when I think about all the hassle at the airports and all the DANGER going on in the world.

@IreneVincent I did make the cross country road trip from LA to Key West. My plane travel days are likely over so it's the open road for me where you can stop as many times as you want and set your own pace.

@JohnRoberts LA to Key West. Wow! That IS a long trip. My husband and I drove from San Francisco to West Virginia, once and we drove home to West Virginia from Denver twice. I've had several long road trips, but I'm not up to driving like that any more.

The Florida Everglades
Yes, I went a couple of years back when I was visiting Miami. I took a group half day trip to the Everglades. Then I went to Palm Beach County to see a girlhood friend and she and husband's back yard is part of the Everglades. It is a very interesting place.

I remember going on vacation to Florida with my parents when I was young and one of our trips was to the Everglades and taking one of those airboats. I doubt I'd do it again though

The alligators are enough to keep me away. We didn't think about them much that day, as I remember, but we SHOULD have.

No, I've never been to Florida. For some reason the place does not appeal to me, but I'm sure the Everglades would be interesting to me once I was actually there.
