It Was a Fair Day

This was a special day for me, one that I'll always cherish. For years my dad hasn't felt like going to the Kentucky State Fair. Thanks to medicine making him feel better, though, he jumped at the opportunity when I said, "Do you want to go to the Fair?" I think he was a little disappointed, because the Fair just doesn't change. In fact, while walking around the product exhibits I got the feeling I was strolling through an endless infomercial. (Seriously, we have all these booths with people selling stuff that you can't buy in a store...and there's a real good reason that you can't buy it in a store! ) But that didn't matter. I got to spend "quality time" with my dad. We did enjoy the agricultural part of the Fair. I learned quite a bit about tobacco (my uncle used to raise tobacco, but the only thing I ever remember was doing what's known around here as "hangin' tobacco"). Dad grew up on a farm. I used to play "FarmVille" on Facebook. It was a wonderful day at the Fair, even though the Fair is no better than "fair." It's always good to spend time with the ones you love. Here's a song by my dad's favorite singer...in fact, this is the song I have set as the ringtone when my dad calls me!
NENÍ to Hank Williams. Automat jej chybne priradil. Hraje a zpívá Carl Smith.

I've lived in Colorado over 30 years. I've been to the state fair twice. I could go this year and see Foreigner, but without Lou Gramm, why?

I know, it's like that "Blood, Sweat & Tears" tribute band I saw open for Neil Sedaka a couple of years ago....called "Blood, Sweat & Tears." No original members, no David Clayton-Thomas, so it really can't be "Blood, Sweat & Tears." Then again, there's still a Glenn Miller Orchestra out there touring....

@FourWalls - Without David Clayton-Thomas, why bother?

I haven't seen a Carl Smith reference in a long time.

My husband loves the older country music, me not so much although that one has a cool beat to it. I grew up going to the county fair and occasionally to the state fair in NY. Fond memories of the experience and the family connected to it.

I always like the agricultural aspects of fairs (called 'shows' here). Our state Royal Show starts in a few weeks. Glad your Dad felt like going this year.

The county fair is a big deal in my little town. I used to go every year when my kids were little. This year, my hubby and I talked about going, but we didn't. I'm glad you got to go with your dad.
