Wild Fires

Every year there are wild fires located in the majority of the western US. This year is no different with 10 states involved; with Wyoming having 8 locations and California with 7 and not too far behind is Idaho with 5 and Oregon with 4. All states involved have already had 1/2 million acres burned, with 100 active fires and only 35% contained. I can't even imagine being a fire-fighter in this horrendous mess, not to mention the loss of wild life and the environment being destroyed. It's a shame those of us in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas and Mississippi couldn't have sent them all the rain that we've had. To all our MyLotter friends who live within those areas, I hope you are safe.

Whenever I see or hear about these horrendous fires I always think about the animals. Most of them survive but they are forced out of their homes, running for their lives. There was a huge fire in Colorado recently (The Hayden Creek Fire) that was very near a town in which I used to live. Some of my old friends from there told me that the town has had numerous mountain lion sighting in and just around the town since the fire. This is very rare and never happened while I was there. I'm sure the lions came from the Hayden Creek area which was known to have an active mountain lion population. Those poor lions are just looking for a new home and sadly some of them will venture into urban areas with tragic results.

They are my first thought too @MKAlubs . It's bad enough that over-population of humans is forcing animals out of their natural habitats and then when something like this happens, it ain't good. It sickens me to think that some day, zoos may be the only place to find wild life. But that sure won't stop the Kate Plus Eight or the 10 Kids and Counting bunch will it!

Thank God for our firefighters, that there are people brave enough to do it. We get scared here every summer and have had to evacuate a few times in the past.

I can't even imagine what a firefighter goes through @CinnamonGrl . I don't think I could handle the possibility of fires all the time.

i sure feel fer 'em. i'd not wish to be a fire fighter neither, my dad 'twas such 'n 't times'd be gone fer weeks'n end helpin' to battle those monsters. we always feared fer his safety - no cell phones 'n easy access to let folks know ya were alright back then. we'd some serious fires 'cross our state not long 'go. rarely makes the news when such occurs here. the critters get hit the worst, the folks get tended to 'n they're left homeless'n without food/water sources. i hope that all stay safe's well. phew, that 'twas some floodin' down 'cross the south, eh?? yepperz, shame ya can't jest pump that schtuff 'p to where 't's so direly needed.

It's so dry in California. One fire burning there is near my old house and they are evacuating. I pray for rain and the fires to be contained.

Australia has its problems with bushfires. Our last big one - in West Aust - wiped out a small town and the problems in rebuilding are ongoing.

Wildfire in California in the summertime is just as much expected as flowers in the spring. At least this year we have not had a big fire near us, yet.
