I'm Still Hungry

I don't know what is going on with me lately but I have been getting hungry about an hour or two after eating breakfast. I have tried oatmeal, eggs with turkey bacon, bagels, cereal (not sweet cereal) and grits. It doesn't matter what I eat, it just hasn't been staying with me. If I try and eat fruit or something healthy as a snack, it doesn't hold off the hunger pains. I know it's not my medication making me hungry as I have been on the same medication for years. It shouldn't be from a growth spurt as I hope at 60 I am over that . I have thought about not using the instant packaged oatmeal but making it from scratch. But I don't really want to eat oatmeal every day. I am at a loss as I have tried so many different things while trying to make it healthy. Does anyone have any ideas of what is going on and what I could eat that would hold me over until lunch? I don't seem to have this problem in the afternoons, just breakfast. Should I try and eat a big breakfast and a lighter lunch?

I know one thing, if I don't eat breakfast, I am good till 3 p.m. if I eat breakfast like a smoothie, I am ravenous by 11 a.m. I can't explain it but it happens every time.

I am the same exact way. But now that I take so much medication, I have to eat breakfast or I get nauseated.

@simone10 Maybe your hunger after taking breakfast is a side effects of the medication that you are taking in. I seldom eat breakfast. 2 mugs of teas with sugar is enough for me until lunch time.

Have you tried a few spoons of cottage cheese to tie you up until lunch? It works for me.

Recently I went through a couple of weeks where I just wanted to eat all of the time. I'm no help to tell you what is going on or what to eat. I related mine to somewhat boredom, and if I was eating something I wasn't going out to smoke too much.

I am usually pretty busy in the morning so I don't really think mine is from boredom. I also have days where I want to eat all day.

I read somewhere that if we feel hungry a few hours after a meal, it's not really hunger. Ignore that by drinking water and like a child having tantrums, it will shut up.

I've read that before and I have tried drinking water but it doesn't really help.

Have you checked your sugar level? I think those having diabetes symptoms usually easily go hungry; so they eat little food each time. Try eating more fibery foods like sweet potato or other vegetables/fruits to keep you energetic.

My doctor checked my blood sugar back in June and it was okay. I wish I could eat sweet potatoes and veggies for breakfast but I can't. It doesn't sit well with my stomach.

The instant oatmeal packets do spike your blood sugarand then cause it to crash. They are not really healthy and have had all the fiber pulverized out of them. there are days when I feel like I need to eat all morning. The best thing for me is to have a small serving of nuts or peanut butter along with my breakfast to make it hold. Eat a really big breakfast and it is likely you will not be hungry later in the day. Get enough liquids, water, milk or low sugar juice, like V8 or tomato. Sometimes we feel hungry when our body needs fluids.

What you say makes sense. Instant oatmeal does spike my blood sugar. I will try nuts or peanut butter and a bigger breakfast to see if it works. Thanks!

Avoid anything sweet. The sugar is what makes you angry in very little time. If you eat eggs and bacon, try to add cottage cheese and sliced tomatoes instead of cereals, this works for me.

food in the intervals of 2 hrs is good and bad. depending on person's metabolism some increases weight. But if the hunger is making issues means better consult a nutrition

I have read that eating every 2-3 hours sparks a person's metabolism. I haven't tried it yet so I don't know if it works or not.
