Suddendeath poetry Challenge: End of Summer!

Welcome to this weekend’s Suddendeath poetry challenge, End of Summer! Anyways, rules are as follows, write a poem in any style using the five words that I give you. Write it in one sitting or in under an hour (only to quash your inner editor, rules are loose there). Add it here, OR link in a comment so we can enjoy each other’s poems. The words can be in any plurality or tense. Today’s words are: warm, cool, turning, shorter, leaves My entry is below: Flying past the end of summer is surely almost here. It’s still hot as bleep out there, is fall almost near? It’s warm then cold; it’s hot then hotter, Why is summer lurking like an unwelcome squatter? World keeps turning, and time is moving on, I keep on waiting, why has fall yet to dawn? The days and my patience, are both getting shorter, If I say you win summer, will you give quarter? I want to see leaves turning; I want to see color, But really just want to see the numbers on the thermometer grow smaller.

Summer is not over, very far from that indeed, Since it's still warm I see the growth in every weed. It will be turning cooler of this I am sure, I want warmer weather more and more and more. While days are getting shorter I know what will happen soon, Leaves will tumble from the trees and I'll hum a sad tune.

@AbbyGreenhill yeah ours has to be sadly, BUT, the bill is getting lower as it works less for things to stay cool

Nice job Jess! Since I haven't done these poetry challenges in a long while, here's my attempt at it this morning. Goodbye hot weather from the burning hot sun, The temperatures cooler for the end of summer fun, Two weeks right before the start of Labor Day Weekend, too, Parents celebrate silently for their kids going back to school, woo-hoo! The green leaves on the trees are turning to fabulous bright colors, It's a marvel to see autumn foliage to give the season its festive flavors, Though the long nights would seem shorter every day under the leafy shade, But at least it would be warm outside and refreshing like a glass of lemonade.

it often seems that parents see fall as the beginning of THEIR summer break, lol. Glad you stopped by and done one, lovely piece!

It has been a while since I wrote a poem but here is my entry. The tides are turning now as we sleep Because the sun will shine tomorrow Warm breeze and air we would get to keep Shorter nights then would mean less sorrow Summer, I am so happy you're near The sand is definitely calling In the sun we have nothing to fear For sure Summer would not be boring

Lovely use of the words!! I liked the tribute to summer instead of a longing for fall.

@Jessicalynnt I have not experienced fall because I live in a tropical country where we only have two seasons. This is why I cannot comment much about fall. However, I still love poems so I decided to give this poetry writing a whirl even if it has been a while that I worked out my poem writing skills.

@lealuvy2j well to be honest the only real rule is in regards to using the words, I may give it a suggested theme, but you can use the words however you want
