Getting Fall Urges

Yesterday I went shopping with my daughter. I bought a bunch of storage containers to hold all the baking goods I purchased this week. I am feeling like fall is coming and I want to start making apple cakes, pies and doughnuts. I want all my oatmeal, flour, sugar, nuts and seeds in nice neat containers in my pantry. Unfortunately, this year my apple tree has no apples so I am going to have to buy apples. It is also hot and humid today and I can't imagine baking in this weather. I think my fall urges have hit a little early. I need to wait at least a couple more weeks. Does the approaching autumn make you think of apples, apple cider and other tastes of the season? The photo is my apple crisp from last year.

I think we call that apple crumble (your photo). Baking is not one of my talents I'm afraid.

Yes and honestly I do mine English style so it is a crumble. In the US they do other things with the crispy topping.

My girlfriend back in Colorado has an apple tree and she always let me have all that i wanted. I made lots of applesauce, apple pies and apple butter. I will miss that this year.

Apple pies I have always loved. But why your apple tree did not bear fruits this year?

We have to be careful what we bake right now as it warms up our apartment too much and our a/c can't keep up with it. But I do understand how you feel and we will probably start some baking once things cool off a bit. I usually do most of my baking during the holidays.

@BelleStarr Baking is my specialty so to speak. My brother does all the actual cooking and I do the baking.

I commented to my son this morning that it felt like a nice Fall day here in Florida. We had winds coming out of the north, so the temps were a little cooler and the air a little drier. We enjoyed the day thoroughly, because the rest of the week we expect a lot of tropical moisture to start flowing in from that weather system out in the Caribbean. But the nice day we had today made me long for Fall to get here soon!

We just finished our apple sauce a couple of days ago. Our little trees had some okay enough for sauce apples so we ate hearty for a couple of weeks. I tend to bake all year round. Though now I am rethinking sugar I probably will be changing some of that behavior. I did make an apple pie that had zero sugar in it except the apples and it was tasty.

I do make my own applesauce when I can find discounted apples but I don't bake in the summer.

Yes, the Fall makes me think of comforting food like apple crisps and more. Still too hot right now.

yes it does in a way.... I've tried baking on and off over the summer... with varying levels of success.... which honestly I can't blame completely on the weather... lol ... but I do have better results when it is not so hot and humid........ the return of autumn means longer dog walks for us ... which I enjoy very much... and not changing my t shirt and shorts twice a day because they are wet through.... lol and being able to do my hair in the morning and it still looking fairly reasonable at the end of the day .... and not like I had not even bothered after just 3o minutes or so.... yyeeeyyyy roll on autumn....

I am not ready for autumn quite yet it is still August and supposedly the height of summer. I have noticed that it is getting darker earlier and later in the mornings. I do not like the winter months which are fast approaching.

I am baking dinner tonight with the oven fan on sucking the heat out. I love to bake! I am good at pies and cookies. Yes! But it was 95° here today and I got sunburned mowing grass.

Then try and buy the apples from a farmers market near you, otherwise it will get costly. Autumn does not excite me,then l know winter is on the way and my body does not appreciate winter.

No, I won't feel in my autumn apple frame of mind for at least another month or so. Its just too warm and humid right now to think of eating sweets or baking

glad to hear that'cher ready fer when the weather cooperates 'n ya can fetch ya some apples. i've doubts many 'f our apples're gonna reach maturity this year. last year we'd a bumper crop, this year the winds've been most unkind - litterin' the place with wee apples nowhere near their prime. e'en the horses shutter't the bitterness 'f such. i'd love to do all that bakin', but fear i'd be the only one to partake'n such.

Your apple crisp looks very similiar to our apple crumble which is one of Vin's favourite desserts - after plum pudding!

I haven't seen an apple tree; only apple fruits in grocery stores that are imported from temperate countries.
