A new bird to mark in our book

While we were inside this morning, I suddenly caught sight of a splash of red flying onto the verandah. We found out later it was a Western Rosella.
Despite a mad panic to find the camera – how could it get lost so easily – the bird flew away first. However it came back a bit later and landed in the New Zealand Christmas tree just outside the kitchen window. By now we'd found the camera and were able to get a half-decent photo of it.
The western rosella is confined to the south-west of Western Australia. The males have red heads and breasts and the females green heads and breasts. They have yellow cheeks as you can see and the wings are blue-ish.
Every time we identify a new bird we put a sticker in our bird book to mark the page. We're getting to have quite a few stickers now. Isn't he handsome? I hope he comes back.

@JudyEv Melaleuca and Australian Pines are the main ones here in Florida. They are completely taking over south Florida!

@moffittjc And in California it's one of the eucalyptus although I think it now has a new genus - Corymbia.

There are plenty of these rosellas around the park near us .. we enjoy watching them ..

@JudyEv Yes indeed! The other day we saw a 20 of them up on one tree .. They adorned the tree beautifully ..

@epiffanie The rainbow lorikeet is another beautiful bird but has been introduced over here and is taking over from some of our native species.

@jaboUK Go to the top of the class!! That's great. Yes, just copy and paste the URL to below the last of your text. Just about every time I do it and hit 'start discussion' it shows at the bottom as 'http. etc' which means others have to cut and paste it to see the slideshow.
You need it showing as a little 'box' so tap 'edit' and just fiddle with the text a bit (tap enter somewhere once or twice then delete it back to where it was). Then hit 'edit' and check if it has become a box. I often have to do this three or four times before it appears correctly at the bottom. Good luck with it. I'll be watching for it.

he's gorgeous! so glad he returned'n ya'll were able to get a photo 'f such :) got my fingers crossed that him 'n a lady friend'll be gracin' yer place fer some time. most interestin' that the females 're colored so much diff'rently. then 'gain, most 'f the female birds 'round here 're jest shades 'f browns 'n greys, lol.

@JudyEv there aint many birds 'round here who're vibrantly colored. reckon such'd make 'em to easy prey. i miss cardinals. they're quite prevalent back'n the hills 'f tennessee.
