Women are so fickle!

I have only popped in and out throughout the week as it has been a bit hectic to say the least. I have finished decorating the lounge, painting the ceiling, walls and woodwork. I don't know about you but I find women quite an enigma and still cannot fathom how their minds work. I have been married for 34 years and have learnt when to speak and when to keep quiet and I learnt early on in our marriage that when choosing furniture or paint colours that I will get the blame for whatever it looks like so I leave the choice to my wife. I guess it is sort of damage limitation in a way. So last week we went to the shop to buy the paint. I had a few ideas about the colour scheme none of which my wife agreed with eventually I said well you choose what colours you want which she did. She chose an oatmeal colour for the walls. At the time I knew what was going to be the outcome once I had finished. Sure enough once I had finished my wife was saying I don't like the colour. I told her I knew that this would happen but would you listen to me. That is why I always give you the choice leaving the final decision to you. I reminded her that she did the same with the kitchen, the same with the bedroom, I told her she made the choice and now she is going to have to live with it for a while and hopefully the room colour scheme will grow on her. My daughter thought it was hilarious and pointed out to her that she does this sort of thing all the time. The rest of the week I have done great things with my daughter and grandchildren who incidently stayed over again last night and started talking at me at 6am this morning and that is all before I had my first cup of coffee. I hope you too have had a very productive week? We went to visit my aunt who is 82. She is really quite fit and active. We had a great day and went to the promenade and had fish and chips. It was too hot to sit out in the sun and eat them because we had the kids with us so we had a much more civilised lunch in a restaurant rather than eating them sitting on the beach, She was off to Germany for the weekend they are driving there and back. They go over every other month and love visiting Germany. I think they are going to a wine festival this time. The photo is of my aunt and me in the restaurant.

Gary surely most of the women are as per your description. I know that my husband is stubborn, he is a very kind man, but "he's the one who wears the pants". I am glad that (after he has decided) he asks my opinion and if/when I am really against something we can discuss. Most of the time we agree about the colours, the kind of furniture and everything. We only did not agree about the cars. He loved big sport cars, I love small, practical cars.

@garymarsh6 Same here, my friends always say that I am the only one who has the power to keep my husband quiet. I forgot to mention that your aunt looks great. She does not show her age at all.

Just because your wife chose the colours will not alter the obvious fact that it is your fault Gary.

@garymarsh6 It is safer to just let her carry on, otherwise she would accuse you of arguing.

As is the norm. Do I take any notice! Nope I just let her have her five minutes of moaning and then ignore! If you need me I am under my computer desk in my study! LOL

@Asylum Well after 34 years I think I am quite adept at ignoring her moans! Being slightly deaf helps too!

For starters, let me say ...you are too shrewd....your wife is innocent...she should let you select and then blame you.. And your aunt looks great at 82...my pa is also active...and he is 83...he has his diabetes and blood pressure but otherwise, he is ok.

My husband is the same way he leaves it up to me as to what color I want to paint each room in the house.

I learned early on the best way to keep the peace in my household: I am responsible for and take care of all decisions for everything on the outside of the house, and she is responsible for all the decisions on the inside. The arrangement has really helped keep the peace over the years!

@garymarsh6 Just be aware, when you say that you'll handle the outside and she'll handle the inside, truthfully it means she'll make the decisions on both! LOL

that's yer aunt?? mercy, she sure don't look anywhere near bein' 82! sounds like a most busy week, hon. so much fer yer relaxin' holiday, eh? 't least ya got some schtuff tackled. 't my house, 'tis the opposite. the hubs'll not paint (thankfully so, he gets more paint'n the carpet/drop clothes 'n himself than a wall/'r ceilin') , 'n if'n he picks out a paint color, he's most oft greatly dissatisfied with such 's well. i got to wear i'd do a glaze finish o'er 'em to make 't more liveable. glad'ja got to spend that time with the family. such's priceless :)

After 34 yes I'm sure you know how all this was going to turn out but oatmeal does sound like a nice neutral color. I bet your wife will accessorize nicely.

I love the story of the husband who was putting up pictures for his wife and asked 'do you want them hung too high or too low'. Just about sums it up doesn't it? Your aunt looks nothing like 82! She looks stupendous if she is really that age.

@garymarsh6 Years ago women used to hide their age. There doesn't seem to be that kind of paranoia about age nowadays. But once people get to a certain age, especially women, many are keen to tell you how old they are.

Yes you can almost drive all the way once you have crossed the channel either through the Channel tunnel you drive your car onto the train and it goes through the tunnel coming out just outside Calais in France or you take the car ferry over to Calais. Then drive through Belgium into Germany,. They usually stay in hotels.

Is the picture of the aunt who is 82? If so, she does not look 82 at all. More like she is in her 60's. I agree that women can be hard to understand at times and I am a woman myself...lol. I hope the color of the bedroom grows on your wife and she starts to like it.

I eventually give up and let my husband make most of the decorating decisions. But there is a lot of "discussion" before I reach that point. I did paint the spare room and I did choose the colours myself. When it comes to our bedroom though, the discussion is still lively. I am not going to 'win" there.
