Hotel California

On a well tarmacked highway The sun's glare in my eye The greenery surrounding me This is what I spy A sign board proclaiming "HOTEL CALIFORNIA" Whaaat? ... Theres nothing Californian about the place Its located in a semi-rural area about 7599 miles from Caliornia. Intrigued, I ask hubby to stop He does pull over and we get out We look at the sign. Typically Indian, The billboard welcomes us to the Hotel California with the traditional 'namaste' Walk over to the eatery The owner grins and comes out. Hey ,I'm not the only one He smiles....The sign sure lures customers Why? I ask . What made you choose this name ? Is it the song? He breaks out into the famous song by the Eagles. "Madam, he says these were the songs we used to sing and hum . The guitars strummed and friendship flowed High spirits and youthful camaraderie I keep those alive with this name. And yes, like you there are people who pull over. Foreign tourists ask for something non-spicy I usually make them scrambled eggs But otherwise cuisine is Indian It won't sell otherwise." So, armed with a load of guavas his wife has just plucked and given us. And after a meal of chicken and chappatis we go back on our way. Unlike, the original place, we could leave Filled with a sense of well-being at their friendly attitude. And wonder at the unifying power of music In a world divided by religion, ethnicity and race .

haha, I thought you enter into a haunted hotel. According to the song, "But you can never leave!" That sounds really eerie!

you are observant and curious and it was nice of your husband to pull over. that was a great story you uncovered and you're right about the power of music, same with books, even tv shows, movies, and world events. i chuckled when you even researched the distance to california, usa. what do you plan to do with the guavas?

Love the last bit - the thought that music transcends religion, ethnicity and race - or hopefully so.

Btw, I love that Song... On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair Warm smell of colitas, rising up through the air Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim I had to stop for the night There she stood in the doorway; I heard the mission bell And I was thinking to myself, "This could be Heaven or this could be Hell" Then she lit up a candle and she showed me the way There were voices down the corridor, I thought I heard them say... Welcome to the Hotel California Such a lovely place Such a lovely face Plenty of room at the Hotel California Any time of year You can find it here.......................

Hehe. Yes. It's a song everyone probably knows. Well, even just a part of it. But it does serve the purpose of catching the attention of passers-by. It helps a lot, too, that the owners are so friendly.
