What did you want to be when you grew up?

Thinking about a recent post of mine about kids answers in church to the question I thought it might be fun to ask what you wanted to be when you grew up. Can you remember? Did you become what wanted to be? I wanted to be a teacher and then a poet. I have published poetry, worked as a pre-school teacher and worked in adult education, so I guess I did have it in me.

I wanted to be an architect at one point, but my dad didn't think I had the aptitude for it, so I didn't attempt college at that time. I did take a few online classes some years ago but mostly for an English degree. I quite soon after. It was too difficult working two jobs and taking classes too. My dad was an electrician and would have house plans in our house. We took a few summers and the three older girls, myself being the oldest, would make a house plan of a home and then use the catalogs put out back then like: Sears, Montgomery Wards and Penneys to furnish each house. We made notes of which catalog was used and page numbers. Then when we finished we took a plan made by a sister and checked to see what they furnished their with. We did it down to the faucets and flooring and ever part of a home. Maybe I should have been a decorator? I've done many things in my lifetime, but writing is by far the best, and teaching God's Word to people too.

When I was a kid, I wanted to become a doctor. Upon reaching high school, I noticed that my written and oral communication skills have developed. Then, I wanted to become a lawyer. I took AB Political Science then entered law school. Today, I'm a member of the legal profession.

I wanted to be an art teacher and actually planned on that until my sister who was a year ahead of me suddenly decided to do that. GRRR I was so mad. She dropped out of school after about 6 months anyway but oh well in the long run it worked out. I knew I wanted to start a family early and college just wouldn't have went with those plans.

I wanted to be a teacher. That was what I wanted when I was an elementary student. But of course my parents discouraged me. Mom wanted me to take Mass Communication, dad wanted me to be a lawyer. So I went to business school in the university and after getting that degree and plunging into business for two years, I decided to go to law school which of course I was able to finish. I think I made my parents happy with my degrees. Then I started teaching at a language institute for 6 years. Then I went back to school again to study Real Estate Management, took a licensure exam after that and succeeded. Now I run my own company.

I wanted to be a millionaire. LOL. Just kidding. That is everyones dream I guess. I wanted to be a rock star, really, no joke. I also loved and still love technology. I never got the chance to follow any area I had. But I wound up okay. Now I dabble in writing online. It seems to keep me busy and makes me feel good.

Originally, I wanted to be a lawyer. However, my parents were having a difficult time financially at the time when I was choosing a college and I felt that to help them, I shouldn't choose a degree where they would sustain my tuition for 8 years so in the end I became an engineer instead of a lawyer. No regrets though.

I wanted to be a photographer for a while but when I turned 12 I wanted to be a screenwriter and I am still working on that goal. I already have one short film I am credited for!
