I Just About Cried

Pixabay free image of police I had a full day. We sent my kiddo home early again today. I left work on schedule, and headed for McPherson. Hubby had a health appointment I wanted to go to. I missed it. I caught up with his car at the hospital. He did not have his phone, but had used the Doctor's phone to leave me a voice mail. I was about five minutes behind him, he had to have lab. I could not find him, he could not find me, but we finally connected. He went to pick up a prescription. I headed for the middle school. My son's oldest girl had a volley ball match. No parking available in front, or on the east side. I turned and began driving slowly around back, looking for a spot. I came near the rear parking lot. Two boys were doing stunts on bicycles. I had to come past a full sized van that was parked. As I did that, still moving, but slowly, one of the boys crashed head on into my car. He flew up in the air and onto the hood, then slipped down. H picked up the bike and got into the grass. I grabbed my phone and called 9-1-1. THE BOY GAVE ME A THUMBS UP, and left quickly. His friend stayed around. I found out later, the damaged bike was his. By the time the police arrived, the injured boy was back accompanied by dad. He had two scrapes on one leg. That was it. I could have cried at first because of worry and because we had a wreck. When he came back and I saw he really was okay, I could have cried from relief. I could have cried for joy. The police said since he insisted he was okay and I had proof of insurance, and I did not see any damage to my car they would not even write a report. From behind the steering wheel it looked like he was playing chicken with me, daring me to hit him, but we got the rest of the story. The two boys on bikes were doing stunts on their bikes, like popping wheelies and jumping curbstones. When the young man who crashed thought he was going to crash into his buddy, he over corrected, running head long into my slow moving car which he did not see approaching because a large conversion van blocked his vision.. I don't know about you guys, but i am exhausted from that experience.

Thankfully he wasn't seriously injured, and hopefully he learned a valuable lesson about riding like that in a parking lot where there are vehicles.

He rode out of the parking lot into the street. They both did. It just never seems to occur to kids anywhere that there is any danger around a school.

I would have been a nervous wreck for hours and hours later after something like that.

that would have scared me too and Im glad he was not badly hurt. I know several years ago we my friend Nelda and I stopped for traffic light saw this "SUV turn and hit a boy on his bicycle and he flew up in the air he walked his bike to the sidewalk and badly injured he collapsed on the sidewalk.when we returned the ambulance was there and loaded him into the ambulance we never did know how he fared.

I bet you and Nelda felt really shaken as well. It leaves them so vulnerable on those bikes, but it is good exercise and cheap transportation.

@yes we really were and we were upset with the driver of the "SUV as she did not have the right of way to turn and it was getting dark so she did not see the boy on his bike it was really her fault too.she did not have her car lights on at all

If no one was claiming injury or damage and I had insurance, there was no report to issue. As a funny side note, the dad had expired car tags the officer told him about. When all was said and done there were three police people there and information was taken. My driving history was checked, and I guess the kid has not been in trouble either.

@GardenGerty mercy...here they'd given that fella a ticket fer such. i jest worry 'bout those sue happy folks who come 'p with injuries ('r wish to claim damages to their property) 'fter the fact 'n then y'ave got no police record to back ya 'p. i've a friend who went through such. the other party didn't win the case, but 't cost the friend a purty penny to fight 't.

My first three days of work I had different transportation related issues each day. I told my supervising teacher that if I believed in omens I would decide I was not supposed to work this job.

I was tired, may be part of why I caught the cold. I think that if the dad was gonna try to come up with injuries he would have been calling an ambulance. To hear him tell it he did something similar as a kid.

@GardenGerty Heather glad it turned out ok and can understand how it could wear one out. The boys should not have been doing what they were doing. You were going slow but someone could have come out of no where and it it could have been worse than it was.

There are places in that city where it is okay to do that, but around a school parking lot is not one of them. We even have stunt equipment for skateboards in one park. I was so very relieved.

@GardenGerty Heather, I feel they should go to a field or a vacant place where no cars come from and they can be safe.

No one wants to see a kid get hurt. I was glad he did not hit his head.

The kid got a couple of scrapes but he seemed to be one tough kid. i am sad that he thought he would get in trouble, unless of course he was doing something he was not supposed to.

I am also glad he was honest, accidents do happen, although I hope he picks better places to do stunts next time!

@Jessicalynnt That may indeed happen. The kid with the bike was busy saying how he would straighten the tire, pull the handlebars back up and paint things. . . kids!

Honestly, I felt sorry for him. He was sure he would be in trouble for running into my car and damaging his friend's bike. I felt very blessed that everyone was cool and calm in the situation.

@GardenGerty then his parents definitly have raised him well. If he was mine he would be helping pay for his friends new bike, they really needed to pick a better spot to play

@GardenGerty I would have been quite shaken.. I think kids truly believe that they are indestructible, not that he meant to run into you. I am so glad no one was hurt.

Oh, Mannn was I shaken. Kids just do not think, period. Yes, they see all these games and shows where someone is hurt or killed and then they are back again in the next version. Of course they believe they are indestructible.

Oh, me too. And the kid who belonged to the bike that got damaged seemed pretty cool about it as well. It was a dreadful way things turned out for what seemed to be a lot of fun for them.

There was a male and female officer, both very nice. The dad was nice. Everyone was nice and that made tons of difference to me.
